In a rare show of political unity, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur today jointly visited the flood-ravaged Thunag market in the Seraj assembly constituency to take stock of the devastation caused by recent cloudbursts and flash floods.<\/p>\n

The flash floods, triggered by intense rainfall in the region, wreaked havoc in Thunag, damaging shops, homes, and public infrastructure. CM Sukhu and LoP Jairam Thakur walked through the affected market area, met local residents and shopkeepers, and listened to their grievances firsthand.<\/p>\n

Both leaders assured the people of all possible assistance from the state government and urged them to stay strong in the face of adversity. “We stand united in this hour of crisis. Relief and rehabilitation will be our top priority,” said CM Sukhu during his interaction with the public.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media following the inspection, the Chief Minister announced that he would be visiting New Delhi soon to meet Union Ministers and press for a special relief package for Himachal Pradesh. \u201cWe will place a strong demand before the Centre to secure the necessary funds for relief and rehabilitation. The scale of damage requires urgent and comprehensive support,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

During the visit, CM Sukhu also paid a heartfelt visit to the family of Budhi Raj, a local resident who tragically lost his life during the flash floods. The Chief Minister offered his condolences and assured the bereaved family of adequate financial and logistical assistance from the government.<\/p>\n

The joint inspection by the CM and LoP sent a strong message of bipartisan support for the disaster-hit population and reflected the urgency of coordinated relief efforts in the wake of natural calamities increasingly impacting the hill state.<\/p>\n

The administration has already begun assessment and initial relief measures, while further announcements regarding compensation and rehabilitation packages are expected in the coming days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
