Chief Minister\u00a0Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> on Thursday announced a major relief and rehabilitation push for the disaster-hit Seraj Assembly Constituency<\/strong>, stating that the government is considering a one-time settlement policy<\/strong> to resettle families<\/strong> who have lost their homes due to devastating cloudbursts and landslides<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the second day of his visit to the affected region, the Chief Minister toured Thunag, Bagsiad, Deji, Bara, and Syanj villages<\/strong>, where the aftermath of the natural calamity continues to unfold. The CM personally reviewed the extent of damage and assured locals that the state government would extend every possible support<\/strong> to help them rebuild their lives.<\/p>\n

Rs. 7 Crore Relief Announced for Immediate Restoration<\/h3>\n

Chief Minister Sukhu announced a relief package of Rs. 7 crore<\/strong>, of which Rs. 2 crore had already been released. He detailed that:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • An additional Rs. 2 crore each<\/strong> will be allocated to the Public Works Department (PWD)<\/strong> and the Jal Shakti Department<\/strong> to accelerate restoration of roads and water supply systems.<\/li>\n
  • Rs. 1 crore will be given to the Block Development Office<\/strong> for localized rehabilitation and community-level infrastructure rebuilding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Missing and Dead in Villages; CM Offers Condolences<\/h3>\n

    In a grim assessment of the human toll, the Chief Minister shared that:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • 11 people remain missing<\/strong> in Deji village<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • Two deaths<\/strong> have been reported in Bara<\/strong> and four<\/strong> in Syanj<\/strong>, where five individuals are still unaccounted for<\/strong>.
      \nCM Sukhu expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Unsafe Homes to Be Declared Uninhabitable<\/h3>\n

      While interacting with villagers at Pakhrar Panchayat Ghar<\/strong>, CM Sukhu instructed revenue officers to immediately assess all forms of damage<\/strong>, including household losses and livestock deaths. He emphasized that any residential buildings filled with debris or deemed unsafe<\/strong> must be declared completely damaged<\/strong>, making them eligible for maximum compensation<\/strong> under disaster relief norms.<\/p>\n

      Focus on Horticulture Losses and Special Package<\/h3>\n

      Recognizing the economic blow to apple growers and horticulturists<\/strong>, the CM directed officials to conduct a special survey<\/strong> of orchard losses. He stated that the State Cabinet would soon announce a targeted relief package<\/strong> for affected farmers and families.<\/p>\n

      Settlement Policy in the Pipeline<\/h3>\n

      At Bara<\/strong>, the Chief Minister revealed that the government is actively exploring a one-time settlement policy<\/strong> for displaced families. He noted that since 68% of Himachal Pradesh\u2019s land is classified as forest<\/strong>, any permanent resettlement would require clearance from the Central Government<\/strong> to use forest land.
      \n\u201cWe are committed to rehabilitating the displaced in safe zones, and discussions are underway at the highest level,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n

      Education, Roads, and Army Support<\/h3>\n

      To ensure education is not disrupted, CM Sukhu announced that temporary classes<\/strong> of the Forestry and Horticulture College, Thunag<\/strong>, would be held at Sundernagar<\/strong>.
      \nHe informed that while major roads have been reopened<\/strong>, efforts to restore village link roads<\/strong> are ongoing on a war footing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      The CM also visited NCC cadets<\/strong> at the Thunag Rest House<\/strong>, applauding their dedication. When local schoolgirls<\/strong> shared their concerns about damage to their school, he announced plans to open a CBSE-affiliated school<\/strong> in Thunag<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      Army, SDRF, and Volunteers Applauded<\/h3>\n

      Chief Minister Sukhu commended the efforts of SDRF, NDRF, Police, Home Guards<\/strong>, and volunteers<\/strong>. He interacted with relief teams and Army Brigadier Yajuvendra Singh<\/strong>, who briefed him about the operations and confirmed that 26 army personnel<\/strong> are currently deployed in the region.<\/p>\n
