Citizen Council Delivers Relief to Seraj Disaster Victims Amidst Heavy Rain and Roadblocks.

Shimla:

On Thursday, the Citizen Council (Nagarik Sabha) Mandi took decisive action to support disaster-affected residents of the Seraj region by delivering essential relief materials. The initiative began early in the morning when Council President O.P. Kapoor flagged off the relief team from the Citizen Council office at Chohhta Bazar.

Led by General Secretary Harish Vaidya, the relief team included Naresh Dhiman, Raghuveer Malhotra, Anil Gupta, and Neeraj Handa. Prior to their departure, the district administration informed the Citizen Council about the specific needs of the affected communities, enabling the team to bring precisely what was required.

Despite facing challenges such as continuous heavy rainfall and severe traffic jams due to ongoing roadwork, the team successfully reached the disaster-hit area. The group distributed the following essential items:

  • 100 jackets

  • 200 pairs of shoes

  • 100 sets of children’s clothes

  • 21 solar lights

  • Buckets, mugs, and bottled water

During the relief effort, the team met former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at the site. He expressed his appreciation for the Citizen Council’s timely and compassionate response.

Council spokesperson Neeraj Handa described the extent of the devastation as “difficult to even put into words” and made an urgent appeal to the public for more solar lights. “Those who wish to contribute can send solar lights directly to the Citizen Council office or via the District Collector’s office,” he said.

Handa, along with Harish Vaidya and O.P. Kapoor, extended heartfelt thanks to Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan for promptly informing the council about the urgent requirements in the affected areas.

The Citizen Council’s swift action and coordination with local authorities demonstrate the power of community response in times of natural disaster, offering hope and practical aid to those in dire need.
