The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, organized a one-day seminar on \u201cCareer Opportunities in Journalism and Mass Communication\u201d as part of its alumni interaction programme. The seminar aimed to enlighten students about the expanding career avenues in the media industry and to inspire them through the success stories of alumni.<\/p>\n

Principal Dr. Sanjeev Kumar extended a warm goodwill message, emphasizing journalism\u2019s vital role in shaping a progressive society. Describing journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy, he stated that the field acts as a crucial bridge between the public and governance. He praised the department for its continued efforts in fostering awareness and knowledge among students.<\/p>\n

The seminar was inaugurated by Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. In his keynote address, Dr. Chaman spoke extensively about the vast and evolving opportunities in the media world. He discussed career prospects across traditional print and electronic media as well as in new-age digital platforms, public relations, advertising, and academia. He also emphasized the impact of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies in transforming journalism into a more dynamic and demanding profession.<\/p>\n

Dr. Chaman highlighted unique opportunities for media professionals within the Indian Armed Forces, noting that journalism and mass communication now offer distinct roles such as Public Relations Officers, Military Correspondents, and Social Media Managers. He underlined the need for discipline, communication skills, and media literacy for those pursuing such careers.<\/p>\n

Adding to the rich discussions, distinguished alumni of the college shared their professional journeys. Neeraj Solanki, currently serving as Manager at a Military Community Radio Station and Public Relations Officer, credited Dr. Chaman\u2019s mentorship for shaping his path. He shared practical insights into military media roles including documentary production and content creation.<\/p>\n

Lieutenant Pankaj Kumar, another proud alumnus, spoke about how journalism training and NCC played an instrumental role in developing his personality and helped him succeed in joining the Indian Army. He stressed the importance of communication and leadership in both the military and media professions.<\/p>\n

Cadet Warrant Officer Kartik Thakur, who recently qualified for the Indian Air Force\u2019s Service Selection Board (SSB), inspired attendees by sharing his preparation strategies and the importance of group discussions and NCC discipline in his success.<\/p>\n

Other alumni, including Parikshit\u2014who was associated with the college\u2019s Robo Ranger Unit\u2014and Nishant from Sirmaur, also reflected on how their peer group and mentors helped shape their character and guided them in the right direction.<\/p>\n

The seminar concluded with an engaging group discussion featuring enthusiastic participation from students including Yamini Kashyap, Bhanupriya, Deepak Bhardwaj, Samriddhi Sharma, Mridul, Ankush, Suman, Manish Kumar, Nancy Rana, Rakhi Thakur, Jagriti, Rishabh Dev, Sonakshi Thakur, Nishant, Parikshit, Kartik, Neeraj, Dunichand, Vivek, and Prince.<\/p>\n

Jagriti Thakur, a student of the department, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the principal, faculty, alumni, and participants for making the event a meaningful and memorable experience.<\/p>\n
