In a significant push to fast-track development of a key tourism infrastructure project in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> has directed the forest department to complete the first phase<\/strong> of the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park, Bankhandi<\/strong>, by December 2026<\/strong>. The park is located in the Dehra Sub Division of Kangra district<\/strong> and is envisioned to become a major tourist attraction in the region.<\/p>\n

Presiding over a review meeting at his official residence Oakover<\/strong>, the Chief Minister assessed the project’s current progress and issued directives to expedite construction work<\/strong> across various components. He stressed that the park would offer world-class facilities<\/strong>, combining wildlife conservation with eco-tourism to create a unique visitor experience.<\/p>\n

Sprawling Park with Safari Attractions and Modern Amenities<\/h3>\n

The zoological park, spread over 233 hectares<\/strong>, will feature lion and tiger safaris<\/strong>, along with enclosures for various animals, reptiles, and bird species<\/strong>. To accommodate visitors comfortably, the park will include three parking facilities<\/strong>, restaurants<\/strong>, a food court<\/strong>, and other essential amenities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

CM Sukhu emphasized the urgency of issuing tenders immediately<\/strong> for key infrastructure, including:<\/p>\n

  • Hospital and administrative buildings<\/li>\n
  • Second parking area<\/li>\n
  • Operation theatre and diagnostic facility<\/li>\n
  • Quarantine zone<\/li>\n
  • Commissary area<\/li>\n
  • Toilet blocks and underground water tanks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Eco-Tourism and Sustainability at the Core<\/h3>\n

    Highlighting the park\u2019s green credentials, the Chief Minister proudly announced that Bankhandi Zoological Park is the first in the country to be certified by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)<\/strong> for its eco-friendly and sustainable development practices<\/strong>. In line with this, a 1 MW solar power project<\/strong> will be established within the park to meet its energy demands.<\/p>\n

    The Chief Minister also instructed officials to incorporate eco-tourism and adventure activities<\/strong>, including a planetarium, boating, rock climbing<\/strong>, and other experiential features to elevate the park’s appeal and ensure its long-term sustainability. He also advocated for the plantation of indigenous species<\/strong> to improve both the aesthetic and ecological value<\/strong> of the site.<\/p>\n

    Financial Contributions to Relief and Welfare Funds<\/h3>\n

    During the meeting, cheques of Rs. 5 lakh each<\/strong> were handed over to the Chief Minister toward the Aapda Rahat Kosh<\/strong> and Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashray Yojna<\/strong> by the Bio Conservation Society of Great Himalayan National Park, Kullu<\/strong>. Additionally, the Bio Conservation Society Khajjiar<\/strong> contributed Rs. 5.5 lakh each<\/strong> to both funds.<\/p>\n

    The review meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pant<\/strong>, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden Amitabh Gautam<\/strong>, and other senior forest and wildlife department officers.<\/p>\n
