In a powerful message to adversaries and a strong affirmation of India\u2019s growing self-reliance in defence and manufacturing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for BEML\u2019s Greenfield Rail Manufacturing facility \u2013 BRAHMA<\/strong> \u2013 in Umariya, Madhya Pradesh today. The event witnessed a blend of national pride and economic ambition, as the Defence Minister hailed Operation Sindoor<\/strong> as proof of India\u2019s capacity to defend its sovereignty with home-grown strength.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Rajnath Singh said, \u201cOperation Sindoor is proof that India possesses the capability to defeat its enemies with indigenous strength. We do not provoke anyone, but those who provoke us will not be spared.\u201d<\/em> He described the operation as a \u201cbefitting reply\u201d to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, calling it a message to the world that India will not tolerate threats to its integrity.<\/p>\n

A Symbol of Self-Reliance<\/h3>\n

Highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor, the Defence Minister emphasized the critical role played by India\u2019s indigenously developed defence systems. \u201cOur forces effectively used locally made equipment, underscoring the success of our Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission in defence,\u201d he noted, crediting the progress to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n

Singh also highlighted that India\u2019s defence exports and manufacturing capabilities are witnessing record growth. \u201cIn 2024-25, our defence production reached an all-time high of Rs 1.51 lakh crore, and exports touched Rs. 23,622 crore. This is the new defence sector of the new India,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

BRAHMA: Catalyst for Industrial Growth<\/h3>\n

The BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing (BRAHMA)<\/strong> will be a state-of-the-art facility spread over 148 acres, aimed at producing advanced rail rolling stock such as Vande Bharat trainsets, metro cars, high-speed coaches<\/strong>, and more. With an initial output of 125\u2013200 coaches annually, it is expected to scale up to 1,100 coaches within five years. BEML plans to invest Rs. 1,800 crore in phases to develop the plant.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs<\/strong>, especially boosting local economies in nearby regions like Singrauli, Rewa, Satna, and Katni. It will also provide a significant push to MSMEs by creating supply chain linkages across central India.<\/p>\n

The BRAHMA facility will also champion green manufacturing<\/strong>, integrating renewable energy, zero liquid discharge systems, rainwater harvesting, and eco-friendly construction materials \u2014 a step towards sustainable industrialization.<\/p>\n

\u201cBRAHMA Is a Testament to a Strong and Future-Ready India\u201d<\/h3>\n

Calling BRAHMA a strategic initiative for both national security and economic advancement, the Minister stated, \u201cBEML stands as a pillar in India\u2019s journey towards industrial and defence self-reliance. Projects like BRAHMA reaffirm our economic resolve to be self-reliant, globally competitive, and future ready.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He also emphasized the importance of research and development in strengthening India\u2019s industrial foundation and called on BEML to further innovate in this space.<\/p>\n

Strengthening the Double-Engine Growth Model<\/h3>\n

Touching upon India\u2019s economic trajectory, Shri Singh noted that the nation is growing at 6.5%<\/strong>, positioning itself to become the third-largest economy in the world<\/strong>. He credited the \u201cdouble engine government\u201d \u2014 referring to cooperative efforts between state and central administrations \u2014 for driving this growth and expressed confidence in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by key leaders, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan<\/strong>, Union Minister of Agriculture and former MP Chief Minister; Dr Mohan Yadav<\/strong>, current Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Ashwini Vaishnaw<\/strong>, Union Minister for Railways and IT (virtually); and senior officials such as \u00a0Sanjeev Kumar<\/strong>, Secretary (Defence Production), and Shantanu Roy<\/strong>, CMD of BEML.<\/p>\n
