Vallabh Government College, Mandi, celebrated National Library Day with great enthusiasm, hosting a series of events including a book exhibition, speeches, rangoli competition, and seminars.<\/p>\n

The celebrations were presided over by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Principal of the college, who highlighted the importance of libraries, stating\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cLibraries are the memory houses of human civilization. They are not merely collections of books but treasure troves of ideas, culture, and science. National Library Day reminds us of the importance of reading, research, and self-development. Reading can reduce stress and broaden our perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Raj Kumar Jamwal, Head of the Hindi Department, emphasized that libraries play a crucial role in understanding the history, civilization, and culture of societies.<\/p>\n

In the second session of the seminar, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, delivered a keynote address on \u201cThe Role of Libraries and Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in Building Modern India.\u201d
\nHe said that Dr. Ambedkar laid the constitutional and social foundation of modern India, upon which the pillars of equality, justice, and liberty stand strong. Libraries, he added, are powerful instruments for strengthening this foundation, nurturing ideas, expanding consciousness, and guiding society in the right direction.<\/p>\n

Flying Officer Dr. Chaman highlighted that statues of Dr. Ambedkar adorn the Lehman Social Sciences Library of Columbia University and the library of the London School of Economics\u2014symbols of the world\u2019s recognition of him as a beacon of knowledge. He remarked,<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we aspire to build the India of Dr. Ambedkar\u2019s dreams, we must honor libraries and spread the habit of reading to every citizen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quoting Dr. Ambedkar\u2019s famous words\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cThe day the queues in temples turn towards libraries will be the day true revolution comes to the nation\u201d\u2014
\nDr. Chaman stressed that libraries are centers of thought, knowledge, and culture.<\/p>\n

He further noted that Dr. Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, was not only a jurist but also a social reformer, educationist, economist, and the first Law Minister of independent India. As Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly, he gave India a democratic, secular, and equality-based Constitution, enshrining fundamental rights, equal opportunities, and social justice.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ambedkar also made significant contributions to economic policy, irrigation projects, and industrial development, including the Damodar Valley Project, Hirakud Dam, Bhakra Nangal Dam, and the establishment of the Reserve Bank of India. His thesis \u201cThe Problem of the Rupee\u201d inspired economists such as Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Head of the Commerce Department, chaired the second session, advising students to make thoughtful and critical use of information in the digital era.<\/p>\n

Assistant Librarian Ruma Devi proposed the vote of thanks, noting that National Library Day is celebrated on August 12 in honor of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. On this occasion, a book exhibition was organized at the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Library and inaugurated by Principal Dr. Sanjeev Kumar. Assistant Librarian Chander Chauhan presented a documentary on Dr. S. R. Ranganathan\u2019s contributions to library science.<\/p>\n

Several students, including Lekhraj, Harsha Thakur, Kavita Thakur, Kanika, and Tomish Kumar, shared their views during the event. The library staff also organized a kheer feast for students. Floral tributes were offered to portraits of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Dr. S. R. Ranganathan.<\/p>\n

The program was skillfully compered by Dr. Archana Sharma.
\nThe event was attended by senior faculty members including Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Dr. Raj Kumar Jamwal, Dr. Anju Sharma, Prof. Baldev Verma, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Ruma Devi, Chander Chauhan, Him Nalini Goswami, Bhagwati Bhardwaj, Anupama Sharma, Dr. Rajkumari, Dr. Brinda Shandil, Dr. Balbir Singh, Dr. Kavita, Dr. Anita, Dr. Hema Thakur, Office Superintendent Khushal Thakur, library staff members Mohini and Narmada, NCC cadets, and hundreds of students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
