In a significant step toward ensuring dignity, safety, and socio-economic empowerment of sanitation workers, Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, shared key progress under the Government of India\u2019s flagship NAMASTE (National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem)<\/strong> scheme at a high-profile event held at Shri Krishna Memorial Hall, Gandhi Maidan Road, Patna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Union Minister announced that 85,819 sewer and septic tank workers<\/strong> have been profiled across the country so far under the scheme. Of these, 76,736 workers have been provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Kits<\/strong>, and 60,586 have received Ayushman Health Cards<\/strong>, enabling access to free health insurance under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.<\/p>\n

Patna Takes the Lead in Welfare Efforts<\/h3>\n

Highlighting local progress, Dr. Virendra Kumar noted that in Patna alone, 408 sewer and septic tank workers have been validated through profiling<\/strong>. At the event, 25 Sanitation Workers (SSWs) and 25 Waste Pickers<\/strong> were symbolically handed over PPE kits, while 25 sanitation workers received Ayushman Cards<\/strong>, reinforcing the government\u2019s grassroots approach to delivering benefits directly to the community.<\/p>\n

In addition, safety equipment was distributed to Emergency Response Sanitation Units (ERSUs)<\/strong> to further strengthen occupational safety for frontline sanitation workers.<\/p>\n

Promoting Awareness Through Innovation<\/h3>\n

A unique highlight of the event was the \u2018Rang Paridhan\u2019 fashion show<\/strong>, aimed at promoting awareness about the utility and importance of PPE kits among sanitation workers. The creative approach to safety advocacy was widely appreciated by attendees and participants alike.<\/p>\n

A Testament to “Priority to the Deprived”<\/h3>\n

Speaking at the event, Dr. Virendra Kumar reiterated the government\u2019s unwavering commitment to the principle of \u201cPriority to the Deprived\u201d<\/strong>, emphasizing that historically marginalized and underserved communities are being brought to the forefront of development. \u201cWe envision a Developed India<\/strong>, where every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and live with dignity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
