In light of the widespread devastation caused by torrential rains across Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> onon Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the ongoing rescue and relief operations<\/strong>. The Chief Minister issued firm directives to all district administrations to intensify efforts on war footing<\/strong>, while ensuring swift restoration of essential services<\/strong> including electricity, water supply, and road connectivity<\/strong> in the affected areas.<\/p>\n

Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, CM Sukhu said, \u201cThere is no dearth of funds. Timely action must be ensured by the administration.<\/strong>\u201d He instructed officers to conduct personal visits<\/strong> to affected areas to provide hands-on support and ensure that no person in distress is left unattended<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Evacuation of Stranded Manimahesh Yatra Pilgrims<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A key focus of the review meeting was the evacuation of pilgrims stranded during the Manimahesh Yatra<\/strong> in Chamba district. CM Sukhu directed the local administration to coordinate with the Indian Air Force<\/strong> for deploying 5\u20136 MI-17 helicopters<\/strong> to facilitate rescue efforts, as soon as the weather permits. He also emphasized the importance of staying in constant touch with the families<\/strong> of the stranded pilgrims and making adequate food arrangements<\/strong> for those awaiting evacuation.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister commended the efforts of Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi<\/strong>, who is camping at Bharmour<\/strong>, closely supervising relief and rescue operations. He urged all departments to maintain close coordination<\/strong> with the Minister for efficient management of the situation.<\/p>\n

\n

Relief for Students and Road Restoration in Critical Areas<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a compassionate move, CM Sukhu directed officials to ensure the safe return of students from Kerala stranded in Kinnaur<\/strong>, with travel arrangements to be made free of cost<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He also reviewed the situation in Kullu district<\/strong>, instructing that road restoration in Banjar and Anni<\/strong>, the worst-hit regions, be expedited immediately<\/strong>. The Air Force will assist in airlifting heavy machinery<\/strong> to speed up the road repair work.<\/p>\n

In Shimla district\u2019s Chopal area<\/strong>, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB)<\/strong> was directed to restore power supply without delay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the importance of the ongoing apple season<\/strong>, the Chief Minister instructed PWD and NHAI<\/strong> to prioritize road connectivity<\/strong> in apple-growing belts to prevent post-harvest losses to farmers.<\/p>\n

\n

Heavy Losses: 122 Landslides, 341 Lives Lost This Monsoon<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the scale of devastation. So far, Rs. 3,526 crore<\/strong> in cumulative losses have been estimated since the onset of the monsoon season. Himachal Pradesh has witnessed:<\/p>\n

  • 122 landslides<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 95 flash floods<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 45 cloudbursts<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • 341 deaths<\/strong> due to rain-related incidents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In the last 24 hours alone, 11 fatalities<\/strong> have been reported:<\/p>\n

    • 7 in Sundernagar (Mandi district)<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • 2 in Kullu district<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • 2 in Bithal (Shimla district)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Expressing grief and condolences<\/strong>, the Chief Minister said the State Government stands firmly with the affected families<\/strong>, assuring that all possible assistance will be extended<\/strong>. \u201cI pray to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss,\u201d he added solemnly.<\/p>\n
