In a landmark development set to enhance regional connectivity and ease travel for thousands, the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU)<\/strong> has commenced a direct bus service on the Chandigarh\u2013Sarkaghat\u2013Chandigarh route<\/strong>, effective 1st September 2025<\/strong>. The initiative brings long-awaited relief to ex-servicemen and civilians<\/strong> residing in Sarkaghat region of Mandi district<\/strong>, Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

The new service is being hailed as a “game-changer”<\/strong> by both veterans and the general public, many of whom routinely commute to Chandigarh<\/strong> for essential services such as healthcare, education, administrative work, and legal matters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Ex-Servicemen\u2019s Efforts Pay Off<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The United Front of Ex-Servicemen (JCOs & OR), Himachal Pradesh Branch, Sarkaghat<\/strong>, played a pivotal role in making this service a reality. Under the leadership of Capt. Jagdish Verma (Retd)<\/strong>, the organization submitted a formal representation in 2024<\/strong> to CTU, outlining the urgent need for dependable public transport<\/strong> connecting Sarkaghat with Chandigarh and the Tricity area.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Capt. Verma<\/strong> extended heartfelt thanks to the Director of CTU and its staff<\/strong> for their positive response and timely implementation<\/strong>. He emphasized that ex-servicemen and their families<\/strong> often need to travel to Chandigarh for services offered at ECHS (Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme)<\/strong>, PCDA (Principal Controller of Defence Accounts)<\/strong>, and the Armed Forces Tribunal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis service will immensely benefit our community and also the local population who rely on Chandigarh for medical facilities like PGIMER<\/strong>, academic institutions such as Punjab University<\/strong>, and government offices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Widespread Local Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The campaign for this bus route saw strong backing from local leaders<\/strong>, including Pradhans of Gram Panchayats<\/strong> \u2013 Narola, Kot, Baldwara, Bhambla<\/strong> \u2013 and the Chairman of Municipal Council Sarkaghat<\/strong>. All submitted official letters of endorsement<\/strong>, demonstrating unified support across the region.<\/p>\n

The coordinated efforts of the ex-servicemen\u2019s organisation<\/strong>, local leaders, and persistent follow-up with CTU authorities culminated in the successful launch of the service. Residents have called it a “timely and necessary step”<\/strong>, particularly in the context of limited transport options<\/strong> in the region.<\/p>\n

The direct connectivity between Chandigarh and Sarkaghat<\/strong> is expected to not only make travel more accessible and economical<\/strong> but also foster economic and social development<\/strong>.
