Former MLA of Lahaul-Spiti and senior BJP leader Ravi Thakur<\/strong> led a delegation from Lahaul to meet Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur<\/strong> during his visit to Manali on Friday<\/strong>. The delegation urged Jairam Thakur to undertake a visit to Lahaul-Spiti along with central representatives<\/strong> to assess the severe damage caused by recent natural disasters in the region.<\/p>\n

Ravi Thakur informed that the delegation comprised residents from various parts of Lahaul-Spiti<\/strong> who gathered to highlight the unaddressed damages and administrative apathy<\/strong>. The members requested that a ground-level survey<\/strong> be conducted, and a detailed report be forwarded to the central government<\/strong> for necessary relief and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Severe Damage in Lahaul, Little Response from Authorities<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Speaking to the media, Ravi Thakur stated that numerous villages in Lahaul-Spiti have been heavily affected by floods<\/strong>, especially Mayad Valley<\/strong>, where Karpat village has been completely displaced<\/strong>. In villages such as Haling, Jasrath, and Lindoor<\/strong>, several families have lost their agricultural land to the floods.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than 300 families have lost land<\/strong>, including myself,\u201d Ravi Thakur revealed. \u201cYet, no revenue officer has visited for assessment. This lack of administrative presence is deeply concerning.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the plight of local farmers<\/strong>, stating that only 40% of Lahaul’s agricultural produce has made it to market<\/strong> so far, and that too had to be sold at extremely low prices due to poor connectivity and flood damage<\/strong>. A staggering 60% of the crops remain stuck in the fields<\/strong>, with no clear logistical path for distribution.<\/p>\n

Criticism of State Government and Call for Central Review<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ravi Thakur took aim at the Himachal Pradesh government<\/strong>, accusing them of neglecting disaster-hit areas. He criticized Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> for not visiting the Aleu road<\/strong>, a critical lifeline for farmers, during his recent Manali tour.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast,\u201d Thakur added, \u201cformer CM Jairam Thakur toured disaster-hit areas extensively<\/strong>, including Vashisht Chowk<\/strong>, and directly engaged with BRO (Border Roads Organisation) officials<\/strong> to monitor reconstruction work on the National Highway.\u201d<\/p>\n

While acknowledging that the central government has been providing assistance<\/strong>, Ravi Thakur expressed concern that the state\u2019s administrative machinery has failed<\/strong> to deliver relief on the ground. He committed to raising these concerns at the central level<\/strong> and pushing for an official review.<\/p>\n

Assurance from the Leader of Opposition<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In response, Jairam Thakur assured the delegation<\/strong> that he would soon visit Lahaul-Spiti along with central representatives<\/strong> to assess the ground situation. This visit is expected to strengthen the case for central intervention and support<\/strong> for the region\u2019s recovery.<\/p>\n
