In a major push towards building a future-ready workforce and transforming Himachal Pradesh into a leading IT hub, the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister\u00a0Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> has announced a series of transformative initiatives in the field of technology and innovation.<\/p>\n

As part of this vision, Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Nagrota Bagwan<\/strong>, will now offer degree courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science<\/strong>, enabling students in the region to access cutting-edge education in high-demand domains. This move is seen as a critical step in equipping the youth with the skills required for the rapidly evolving digital economy.<\/p>\n

In parallel, a state-of-the-art Digital University for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Skill and Vocational Studies<\/strong> will be established in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district<\/strong>. The university will be developed under a public-private partnership and self-financing model<\/strong>, and will serve as a catalyst for promoting entrepreneurial thinking, innovation, and practical skill development among students.<\/p>\n

Paving the Way for a Digital Future<\/h3>\n

\u201cThe State Government is fully committed to upskilling our youth in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, which hold immense potential in terms of employment and entrepreneurship,\u201d said Chief Minister Sukhu. \u201cWe are building the foundation for a knowledge-driven economy that not only meets national needs but also prepares our youth for global opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The initiatives come at a time when the demand for skilled professionals in the IT sector is witnessing exponential growth. By integrating AI, machine learning, and data science into mainstream education, the state aims to position itself as a key contributor to India’s digital transformation.<\/p>\n

Drone Technology for Governance, Agriculture, and Employment<\/h3>\n

One of the state\u2019s pioneering efforts in the current financial year is the launch of drone taxi services<\/strong>, which will help transport agricultural produce and medical supplies to remote and difficult terrains. This will significantly enhance service delivery in rural Himachal.<\/p>\n

Additionally, drone stations will be set up in Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kangra<\/strong> districts to promote the use of drones in agriculture, disaster management, and healthcare. This aligns with the broader vision of building a \u201cGreen Himachal\u201d<\/strong> through the adoption of sustainable and smart technologies.<\/p>\n

The government is also actively training youth in drone technology. 243 young individuals have already been trained<\/strong> in the current year through various government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), opening up new avenues for employment and self-employment.<\/p>\n

Expansion of Technical Education Across Institutions<\/h3>\n

Further bolstering the state\u2019s technical education infrastructure, new courses have been approved in prominent institutions:<\/p>\n

  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pragatinagar (Shimla)<\/strong>: Introduction of a degree course in Civil Engineering<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Government Polytechnic, Sundernagar (Mandi)<\/strong>: Launch of a diploma in Computer Science and Engineering with AI and Machine Learning specialization<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    To ensure quality education, the required faculty will be recruited and deployed for these programs.<\/p>\n

    Boosting Innovation and Entrepreneurship<\/h3>\n

    In a bid to encourage innovation among the youth, the government is also establishing a dedicated Innovation Fund of Rs. 2 crore<\/strong>. This fund will provide financial assistance to budding innovators and help them turn their ideas into viable ventures, thereby nurturing a startup culture in the state.<\/p>\n

    A Vision for Youth Empowerment and Economic Growth<\/h3>\n

    These progressive steps in education, technology, and innovation are expected to not only empower the youth with futuristic skills but also stimulate economic development across the state.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWith the launch of AI courses, establishment of a digital university, and integration of drone technology, Himachal is not just catching up with the future\u2014it\u2019s shaping it,\u201d said CM Sukhu.<\/p>\n
