In a major push to transform Himachal Pradesh into a digital and innovation-driven state, the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has unveiled a series of groundbreaking initiatives. These include the introduction of degree courses in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Nagrota Bagwan<\/strong>, and the setting up of a Digital University<\/strong> focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development, and vocational studies in Ghumarwin<\/strong>, Bilaspur district.<\/p>\n

The state government has reaffirmed its commitment to equipping the youth with future-ready skills, particularly in the domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data science, and drone technology\u2014fields that are rapidly redefining global employment and entrepreneurship landscapes.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to make Himachal an IT hub of the country. We are investing in youth and innovation to build a digitally empowered future,\u201d said Chief Minister Sukhu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

AI and Emerging Tech Education on the Rise<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The newly announced AI and Data Science degree program at Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Nagrota Bagwan<\/strong> marks a significant milestone for higher education in Himachal Pradesh. The course is expected to open up wide-ranging employment opportunities and foster entrepreneurial ventures among students.<\/p>\n

Additionally, new technical courses have also been approved in other institutions, such as:<\/p>\n

  • Civil Engineering Degree<\/strong> at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Engineering and Technology<\/strong>, Pragatinagar, Shimla.<\/li>\n
  • Diploma in Computer Science & Engineering (AI & Machine Learning)<\/strong> at Government Polytechnic, Sundernagar<\/strong>, Mandi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    To ensure quality education, the state has committed to appointing the required faculty and staff across these institutions.<\/p>\n

    Digital University at Ghumarwin: A Hub for Innovation and Skills<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In a move set to redefine higher education and vocational training in the state, the government has announced the establishment of a Digital University<\/strong> in Ghumarwin<\/strong>. Developed through a public-private partnership<\/strong> and self-financing model<\/strong>, this university will be dedicated to innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development, and vocational studies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The university aims to become a center of excellence, nurturing entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking among the youth.<\/p>\n

    Boost for Drone Technology and Green Initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In alignment with the \u2018Green Himachal Vision\u2019<\/strong>, the government is also rolling out initiatives involving drone technology<\/strong>, with applications in agriculture, healthcare, and disaster management<\/strong>. Drone taxi services are expected to be launched this financial year, which will be a game-changer for delivering agricultural produce and medical supplies to remote areas.<\/p>\n

    Drone stations will be established in Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kangra<\/strong> districts to modernize agriculture and horticulture practices. Already, 243 youth<\/strong> have been trained in drone operations through state-run ITIs during 2024\u201325.<\/p>\n

    Innovation Fund to Fuel Young Talent<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    To further strengthen the innovation ecosystem, the government is setting up a dedicated Innovation Fund of Rs. 2 crore<\/strong>. This fund will support young minds in turning innovative ideas into viable products and services, acting as a catalyst for home-grown startups.<\/p>\n

    Path to Prosperity and Digital Empowerment<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The state\u2019s comprehensive approach\u2014ranging from formal education in AI to applied technologies like drones, and institutional support for innovation\u2014is designed to not only provide job-ready skills but also foster a culture of entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n
