India Successfully Tests Agni-Prime Missile from Rail-Based Mobile Launcher: A First-of-its-Kind Achievement.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In a significant milestone for India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), successfully conducted the launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a Rail-Based Mobile Launcher system<\/strong> on 24th September 2025. The launch was executed under a full operational scenario, marking a major step forward in India’s missile deployment capabilities.<\/p>\n

The Agni-Prime<\/strong>, a next-generation missile with a range of up to 2000 km, is equipped with advanced technologies, including high accuracy and improved mobility. The successful test showcased India’s progress in developing quick-reaction and concealed launch capabilities.<\/p>\n

What makes this launch historic is the use of a specially designed Rail-Based Mobile Launcher<\/strong>. Unlike traditional systems, this launcher can operate seamlessly across the Indian Railways network without any special preparation or pre-conditions<\/strong>. It is capable of cross-country mobility and offers rapid launch capability with significantly reduced detection risk. Fully self-contained, the launcher integrates cutting-edge communication systems and protective technologies, enabling independent operations in diverse scenarios.<\/p>\n

During the launch, the missile’s trajectory was meticulously tracked by multiple ground stations, and the mission met all defined objectives<\/strong>. Officials described it as a “textbook launch,” further solidifying India\u2019s growing strategic deterrence and operational readiness.<\/p>\n

This development paves the way for future induction of rail-based missile systems, adding a new dimension to India\u2019s strategic arsenal. The test was witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and officers from the Strategic Forces Command, highlighting its importance at the highest levels of defence leadership.<\/p>\n

It is notable that the road-mobile version of the Agni-Prime<\/strong> missile has already been inducted into service after multiple successful flight trials.<\/p>\n

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, SFC, and the Armed Forces on the success. He remarked that the achievement places India among a select group of nations<\/strong> possessing the capability to launch canisterised missiles from a rail-based system \u2014 a critical strategic advantage.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO also extended congratulations to all the teams involved, commending their dedication and technological excellence in achieving this complex milestone.<\/p>\n
