Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today lauded the success of Operation Sindoor<\/strong>, calling it a “true example of jointness” and a landmark moment in India\u2019s journey toward integrated defence operations. Speaking at a high-level seminar organized by the Indian Air Force at Subroto Park, New Delhi<\/strong>, the minister emphasized that the operation demonstrated the power of real-time Tri-Services coordination<\/strong>, resulting in faster decision-making, enhanced situational awareness, and a drastic reduction in fratricide risk.<\/p>\n

\u201cOperation Sindoor produced a unified, real-time operational picture. It empowered commanders to take timely decisions and stands as a benchmark for all future operations,\u201d the defence minister said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Unified Operational Backbone: IACCS, Akashteer, and Trigun<\/h3>\n

A key highlight of the operation was the interoperability between IAF\u2019s Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS), Indian Army\u2019s Akashteer, and Indian Navy\u2019s Trigun<\/strong>\u2014creating a joint operational backbone that showcased the potential of seamless digital integration across services.<\/p>\n

Rajnath Singh underlined that jointness is no longer a policy choice but a survival imperative<\/strong> in today\u2019s fast-evolving threat environment. \u201cJointness has become a fundamental requirement for our national security and operational effectiveness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Government Committed to Deepening Integration<\/h3>\n

Reflecting the government\u2019s strategic outlook, he reiterated the Centre\u2019s unwavering commitment to promoting jointness<\/strong> among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He recalled the recent Combined Commanders\u2019 Conference in Kolkata, where the Prime Minister had emphasized integration and interoperability as key pillars of military transformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur government\u2019s objective is to further promote jointness and integration among the Tri-Services. This is not just policy\u2014it\u2019s survival in the current security climate,\u201d he stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Digital Integration in Logistics and Operations<\/h3>\n

The defence minister also praised the individual digital systems developed by each service:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Army\u2019s Computerised Inventory Control Group (CICG)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Air Force\u2019s Integrated Materials Management Online System (IMMOLS)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Navy\u2019s Integrated Logistics Management System<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    He announced that work is already underway on a Tri-Services Logistics Application<\/strong> aimed at integrating these platforms, enabling shared visibility, cross-service resource optimization, and curbing redundant procurement.<\/p>\n

    Breaking Silos: Sharing Institutional Knowledge Across Services<\/h3>\n

    Singh acknowledged that while each service has accumulated valuable domain-specific experience, much of this has remained siloed.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIf the Army developed something, it stayed with the Army. If the Navy or Air Force developed something, it remained within their own walls. This compartmentalisation has limited the cross-sharing of valuable lessons,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    He urged the armed forces to move beyond compartmentalisation<\/strong> and embrace collective learning and open sharing<\/strong>, especially in the face of modern hybrid threats where no single service can operate in isolation.<\/p>\n

    Aviation Safety and Cyber Defence: A Call for Harmonised Standards<\/h3>\n

    The defence minister issued a stern warning about inconsistencies in safety and cyber protocols across services, noting that even minor lapses could have catastrophic effects. He called for harmonisation of inspection, audit, and safety standards<\/strong> across all services, while respecting their unique operational contexts.<\/p>\n

    \u201cThe cold of the Himalayas is not the same as the heat of the desert. The Navy faces challenges different from the Army and Air Force. Integration must preserve uniqueness while building interoperability and trust,\u201d he explained.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Path to Jointness: Dialogue, Understanding, and Respect<\/h3>\n

    Singh emphasized that jointness is not just about structural reform<\/strong>\u2014it\u2019s also about changing the mindset<\/strong> across all ranks and institutions. He urged leadership across services to drive this transformation by fostering respect, understanding, and shared ownership of reform.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWe will face challenges. But through dialogue, understanding, and respect for traditions, we can overcome them. Every service must feel that the others understand their challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    He also encouraged studying international best practices<\/strong>, but stressed the need for uniquely Indian solutions. \u201cOur answers must be Indian\u2014shaped by our geography, our needs, and our culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

    A Broader Vision: Inclusion of Coast Guard, BSF, DGCA<\/h3>\n

    The defence minister extended the call for jointness beyond the three armed services, urging institutions like the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)<\/strong>, Border Security Force (BSF)<\/strong>, and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)<\/strong> to participate in the integration journey.<\/p>\n

    \u201cOnly when our Armed Forces operate in unison and in perfect coordination can we counter adversaries across all domains and lead India to new heights of glory,\u201d he stated.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Tribute and Attendance<\/h3>\n

    Before beginning his address, Rajnath Singh paid condolences to Lt Gen Raju Baijal<\/strong>, Director General of the Territorial Army, who passed away earlier in the day.<\/p>\n
