In a pioneering move towards environmental sustainability and organic farming, Abhilashi University has inaugurated a cutting-edge Vermicompost Unit<\/strong> on its campus. This initiative, led by students from the School of Agriculture and the School of Basic Sciences, is a testament to the university\u2019s commitment to sustainable development and experiential learning.<\/p>\n

The Vermicompost Unit was established under the expert guidance of Principal Investigator Dr. Ravinder (Department of Soil Science)<\/strong> and Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Aishwarya Sharma (Department of Zoology)<\/strong>. Their interdisciplinary collaboration highlights the university’s holistic approach to solving environmental challenges while integrating academic knowledge with real-world application.<\/p>\n

What is Vermicomposting?<\/h3>\n

Vermicomposting is a natural process that uses earthworms\u2014commonly known as “farmers\u2019 friends”\u2014to convert organic waste into high-quality, nutrient-rich compost. This method not only helps reduce biodegradable waste but also produces an excellent organic fertilizer that improves soil health, structure, and fertility.<\/p>\n

“Through vermicomposting, we\u2019re not just managing waste\u2014we\u2019re creating value for our farms, our students, and our environment,” said Dr. Ravinder during the project presentation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    On September 29, 2025<\/strong>, the Vermicompost Unit was visited by the\u00a0Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H.K. Chaudhary<\/strong>, and Dean of Agriculture, Dr. P.C. Sharma<\/strong>, who personally congratulated the student team and faculty mentors for their hard work and innovation.<\/p>\n

    “Such green initiatives are essential not only for the environment but also for the academic and professional growth of our students. This is the kind of project that builds a future-ready university,” stated Prof. Chaudhary during his address.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    They also encouraged further expansion of similar projects across departments and emphasized embedding sustainability into the university’s daily operations.<\/p>\n
