The Himachal Pradesh government is set to launch a new welfare initiative, \u2018Rogi Mitra Yojana\u2019<\/strong>, aimed at ensuring regular health check-ups for senior citizens, Chief Minister\u00a0Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> announced today. The CM was presiding over the State-level function to mark the International Day of Older Persons-2025<\/strong>, held at the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Addressing a large gathering, CM Sukhu reiterated the government\u2019s commitment to the welfare of the elderly, stating that the upcoming Rogi Mitra scheme<\/strong> will further strengthen healthcare access for senior citizens across the state.<\/p>\n

\n

Pension for Over 6.7 Lakh Elderly Citizens<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Chief Minister shared that the state government is providing social security pensions ranging from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1,700 per month<\/strong> to 6,71,754 senior citizens<\/strong>, without any income limit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

  • Women aged 60\u201369: Rs. 1,500\/month<\/li>\n
  • All citizens aged 70+: Rs. 1,700\/month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    He added that under the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojna<\/strong>, over 2.37 lakh women<\/strong> are receiving a monthly pension of Rs. 1,500. The government is also offering Rs. 3 lakh in financial aid<\/strong> for house construction to single and widowed women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Modern Facilities for Elderly at ‘Sukh Aashray Parisar’<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    CM Sukhu announced that a \u2018Sukh Aashray Parisar\u2019<\/strong> is being built in Jwalamukhi<\/strong> at a cost of Rs. 100 crore<\/strong>, which will provide elderly citizens with modern residential and healthcare facilities. The project is part of the government\u2019s broader plan to provide dignity and care for senior citizens.<\/p>\n

    Himachal Recognized for Welfare of Orphans<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Highlighting the government\u2019s progressive policies, the Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh is the first state in India<\/strong> to grant orphan children the legal status of \u2018Children of the State\u2019<\/strong>. These children are supported until the age of 27, including their education, professional training, and monthly pocket money of Rs. 4,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    They are also taken on annual exposure visits<\/strong> fully funded by the state, including travel, accommodation, and food.<\/p>\n

    Reforms in Education and Healthcare<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    CM Sukhu also emphasized the transformation in the state\u2019s education sector, with Himachal Pradesh climbing from 21st to 5th place<\/strong> in the national education rankings.<\/p>\n

    • 100 government schools<\/strong> will soon be upgraded to CBSE pattern<\/strong> schools.<\/li>\n
    • Medical colleges<\/strong> are being modernized with equipment matching AIIMS-Delhi standards<\/strong>, with an investment of Rs. 300 crore.<\/li>\n
    • Robotic surgeries<\/strong> have started at Chamiana and Tanda Medical Colleges<\/strong> for just Rs. 30,000 \u2014 a fraction of the Rs. 2 lakh charged by private hospitals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n

      Commitment to Social Welfare Over Politics<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      In a strong political statement, CM Sukhu said that the state government restored the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)<\/strong> despite pressure from the Centre to implement the New Pension Scheme (NPS)<\/strong>. \u201cWe chose welfare over politics,\u201d he said, noting that several financial restrictions have been imposed by the Union government as a result.<\/p>\n

      Senior Citizens and Contributors Honoured<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      On this occasion, the CM felicitated several senior citizens and social contributors from different districts of Himachal for their outstanding work, including:<\/p>\n

      • Prof. Amar Singh Chauhan<\/strong> and Rajendra Kumar Sharma<\/strong> from Sirmaur<\/li>\n
      • Dr. P.K. Pathania<\/strong>, Help Age India Solan<\/strong>, and Shalendra Panwar<\/strong> from Solan<\/li>\n

        Cycling Rally and Walkathon Enthrall the Crowd<\/strong><\/h2>\n

        Earlier in the day, CM Sukhu flagged off a Cycling Rally and Walkathon<\/strong>, which drew enthusiastic participation from people of all ages. He also visited exhibition stalls<\/strong> put up by various Women Self-Help Groups<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

        A ramp walk by senior citizens aged 60 to 82<\/strong> became a highlight of the event, along with colourful cultural performances<\/strong> that added festive cheer to the celebration.<\/p>\n
