The internationally renowned Kullu Dussehra<\/strong> festival began with great pomp and traditional fervour today, as Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla<\/strong> inaugurated the week-long celebrations at Rath Maidan<\/strong> in Kullu. The Governor, accompanied by Lady Governor Janaki Shukla<\/strong>, also took part in the revered Rath Yatra<\/strong> of Lord Raghunath Ji<\/strong>, a central highlight of the festivities.<\/p>\n

Addressing media persons after the inauguration, Governor Shukla emphasized the spiritual and cultural significance of the festival, calling it \u201ca symbol of faith, unity, and the preservation of our rich cultural heritage.\u201d<\/strong> He noted that while Dussehra is celebrated in varied forms across the country and the world, Kullu\u2019s unique tradition of pulling the chariot of Lord Raghunath Ji by devotees sets it apart, showcasing deep-rooted cultural continuity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe difference between the Gen-Z of Himachal and those abroad is that here, they participate in rituals like pulling the chariot, which keeps them rooted in our traditions. They are the true preservers of our heritage,\u201d the Governor remarked.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the Governor also addressed pressing social issues, particularly the menace of drug abuse<\/strong>. He called for a united societal effort<\/strong> to make Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state<\/strong>, asserting that \u201cthere is no place for drugs in Dev-Bhoomi Himachal.\u201d<\/strong> He urged youth and community members to come together to create a safe and healthy environment for future generations.<\/p>\n

Touching upon the recent natural disasters that affected the state, Governor Shukla acknowledged the resilience and determination<\/strong> of the people of Himachal in restoring normalcy. He also made an earnest appeal to avoid construction activities near rivers and streams<\/strong>, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation<\/strong> to prevent future calamities.<\/p>\n

Following the inauguration, the Governor visited various exhibitions organized by government departments, boards, corporations<\/strong>, and non-governmental organizations<\/strong>. He interacted with stall representatives and appreciated the exhibits, underlining Himachal\u2019s fame for its pristine natural beauty<\/strong> and the collective responsibility<\/strong> to protect the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet this festival strengthen our bonds of unity, bring prosperity to our state and inspire us to work towards a brighter and more peaceful future,\u201d said the Governor in his concluding remarks.<\/p>\n

The 2025 edition of the International Kullu Dussehra<\/strong> has drawn participation from over 300 deities<\/strong> (devtas) from across the Kullu district, marking it as one of the most significant cultural-religious gatherings in the region.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day, the Governor received a grand welcome at Bhuntar Airport<\/strong>, with cultural performances and traditional greetings setting the tone for the festive week.<\/p>\n

The inaugural event was attended by prominent dignitaries including MLAs Sunder Singh Thakur, Surender Shourie, Bhuvaneshwar Gaur<\/strong>, Chairperson of Himachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Vidya Negi<\/strong>, Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma<\/strong>, Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Raveesh<\/strong>, Superintendent of Police Dr. Karthikeyan Gokulachandran<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n
