Inaugural Workshop on Medicinal Importance of Ashwagandha Begins at Vallabh Government College, Mandi.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Shimla:<\/i><\/p>\n

A six-day Ashwagandha Awareness Workshop<\/strong> was inaugurated today at Vallabh Government College (VGC), Mandi<\/strong>, aimed at educating students about the medicinal, economic, and practical importance<\/strong> of the ancient Ayurvedic plant, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera<\/em>). The workshop is being organized by the Department of Botany<\/strong>, in collaboration with the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB)<\/strong> and the Ministry of AYUSH<\/strong>, Government of India.<\/p>\n

The event was formally inaugurated by Prof. Ravinder Kumar<\/strong>, Vice Principal of the college, who attended as the Chief Guest<\/strong>. In his address, he emphasized the need for integrating traditional medicinal plants into modern lifestyles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe possess knowledge about medicinal herbs but seldom incorporate them into our daily routines,\u201d said Prof. Kumar. \u201cStarting today, let us make efforts to include such plants in our lives for better health and sustainable living.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 130 students<\/strong> from the Departments of Botany, Zoology, and Chemistry<\/strong> attending the inaugural session. Over the course of the workshop (from October 11th to 16th, 2025<\/strong>), nearly 500 students<\/strong> from various disciplines are expected to be sensitized and trained in the use of Ashwagandha and its applications.<\/p>\n

The workshop is being spearheaded by Dr. Tara<\/strong>, the Principal Investigator (PI)<\/strong> of the project, who shared detailed insights into the therapeutic, socio-economic, and environmental benefits<\/strong> of Ashwagandha.<\/p>\n

\u201cChina leverages its traditional medicinal systems extensively, while India, despite its rich Ayurvedic heritage, often leans toward allopathy,\u201d Dr. Tara remarked. \u201cIt\u2019s time we take pride in and promote our own Ayurvedic knowledge systems.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The event also saw the participation of several esteemed faculty members, including\u00a0Prof. Harish<\/strong>,\u00a0Prof. Monika<\/strong>, Prof. Pradeep Kumar<\/strong>, Prof. Neetu Pathania<\/strong>, Prof. Deepali Ashok<\/strong>, and Prof. Madhvi Joshi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Interactive Learning & Student Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students\u2019 requirements for Ashwagandha plants were noted during the session, with an assurance that Ashwagandha saplings will be distributed<\/strong> during the grand concluding ceremony<\/strong> to be held in November 2025<\/strong>. The conclusion of the workshop will also feature a range of student competitions<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n

  • Poetry writing<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Painting<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Slogan writing<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Ashwagandha-based recipe creation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    To enhance learning, participants were provided with informational brochures, folders, pens, diaries<\/strong>, and a unique \u201cvalue-added Ashwagandha samosa\u201d<\/strong> as a refreshment \u2014 combining culinary innovation with health benefits.<\/p>\n

    Objective of the Workshop<\/strong>
    \nThe workshop aims not just to inform but also to empower students to reconnect with India’s traditional plant-based healthcare systems<\/strong>. By focusing on Ashwagandha\u2014known for its adaptogenic, anti-inflammatory, and immunity-boosting properties\u2014the initiative aspires to foster a new generation of environmentally conscious and health-aware youth.<\/p>\n
