The International Purple Fest<\/strong> witnessed a pivotal moment in India\u2019s journey towards inclusive and accessible education as three transformative initiatives<\/strong> were launched on the second day of the festival. Spearheaded by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD)<\/strong>, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the launches aim to enhance accessibility in listening, reading, and writing<\/strong> for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The initiatives were unveiled by\u00a0Rajesh Aggarwal<\/strong>, Secretary, DEPwD, in the presence of senior officials including\u00a0Taha Haaziq<\/strong>, Secretary to SCPD, Goa; Richa Shankar<\/strong>, DDG; Praveen Kumar<\/strong>, CMD ALIMCO; Kumar Raju<\/strong>, Director ISLRTC; and others from the department.<\/p>\n

1. IELTS Training Handbook for Persons with Disabilities<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The first initiative, developed by Believe in the Invisible (BITI)<\/strong> with DEPwD support, is a first-of-its-kind IELTS Training Handbook<\/strong> designed specifically for PwDs. Authored by Anjali Vyas<\/strong>, co-founder of BITI and a British Council\u2013certified IELTS trainer, the handbook addresses challenges faced by individuals with visual, hearing, locomotor<\/strong>, and other disabilities.<\/p>\n

The guide functions as both a self-study tool and a trainer\u2019s manual<\/strong>, featuring adapted strategies for the four IELTS modules\u2014Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking<\/strong>. It includes ISL video links, accessible study resources, time management techniques, grammar and vocabulary support, and customized lesson plans\u2014promoting equity in global English language proficiency tests.<\/p>\n

2. RPL Certification for ISL Interpretation \u2013 SODA & CODA<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC)<\/strong> announced the successful completion of its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Certification in ISL Interpretation<\/strong> for Siblings of Deaf Adults (SODA)<\/strong> and Children of Deaf Adults (CODA)<\/strong>. Conducted in offline mode from August 11 to 29, 2025<\/strong>, the course saw 17 participants<\/strong> from across India successfully qualify. Their certification ceremony will be held on December 3, 2025<\/strong>, to mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. Specialized Training in American and British Sign Language<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a move to internationalize sign language training, ISLRTC also announced a Specialized Basic Training Programme<\/strong> in American Sign Language (ASL)<\/strong> and British Sign Language (BSL)<\/strong>. The month-long course, beginning December 3, 2025<\/strong>, will introduce ISL professionals to ASL and BSL grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, equipping Indian interpreters for global platforms<\/strong> and strengthening cultural exchange with the international deaf community.<\/p>\n

These initiatives collectively represent the government\u2019s focused efforts to build a barrier-free, inclusive learning environment<\/strong>, enabling persons with disabilities to gain education, skills, and opportunities on par with their peers globally<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
