Air India has launched a special relief flight from Milan to Delhi on Sunday, October 19, to bring back more than 250 passengers who were stranded in the Italian city after their original flight was cancelled due to a technical issue. The move comes amid growing concerns from passengers and their families about missing Diwali celebrations in India.<\/p>\n

The scheduled flight, AI138, was cancelled on Friday, October 17, due to a technical malfunction in the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. Following the disruption, passengers reported inadequate arrangements and assistance at Milan\u2019s airport, sparking criticism on social media.<\/p>\n

In response to the situation, Air India announced on Sunday that it would operate an additional commercial flight, AI138D, to repatriate the stranded passengers. The special flight is set to depart from Milan at 1900 hours local time and is expected to arrive in Delhi on the morning of October 20.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo ensure that the affected passengers can return home to India in time for the festive occasion, our teams expedited the rectification process on the aircraft at Milan and secured the necessary approvals to operate an additional commercial flight,\u201d Air India said in an official statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The airline also stated that it has proactively reached out to affected passengers who were earlier rebooked on alternative flights with post-Diwali arrival dates. These passengers have been given the choice to either retain their existing bookings or switch to the newly scheduled AI138D.<\/p>\n

There were particular concerns about passengers facing visa issues due to the delay. One such case involved a passenger whose Schengen visa was set to expire on October 20. Air India confirmed that she had been rebooked on another airline\u2019s flight departing Milan on October 19 to ensure visa compliance.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Saturday, the airline had clarified that passengers were being rebooked on flights scheduled on or after October 20, subject to seat availability across Air India and partner airlines.<\/p>\n

The airline\u2019s quick action in operating the special flight aims to mitigate the inconvenience caused and ensure that passengers are able to celebrate Diwali with their families in India.<\/p>\n

The affected flight, AI138, was originally to be operated with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, commonly referred to as the \u201cDreamliner.\u201d The exact nature of the technical issue that grounded the aircraft was not disclosed, but Air India confirmed that the problem had been resolved to facilitate the additional flight.<\/p>\n
