In a major step towards transparency, accountability, and ease of access, the Himachal Pradesh Government has made all Public Works Department (PWD) rest house bookings available online, marking a significant shift from the previous manual system. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the initiative, stating that it aims to make government facilities more accessible and convenient for the common man.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said that earlier, bookings for PWD rest houses were not easily accessible to the public. However, immediately after assuming office, his government decided to digitise the entire booking process. The online system was fully implemented in June 2025, enabling citizens to book rooms in rest houses across the State with just a few clicks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe move ensures immediate confirmation of bookings via SMS or email, complete with room details. It has also enhanced transparency, accountability, and revenue generation,\u201d said CM Sukhu. He added that the initiative aligns with the government\u2019s broader vision of \u2018Vyastha Parivartan\u2019<\/em>\u2014systemic reform\u2014aimed at transforming public service delivery through digitalisation. \u201cOur goal is to make all official processes digital so that people can access services from their homes without having to visit government offices,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

PWD Secretary Abhishek Jain shared that the initiative has already begun yielding impressive results. Despite the State facing a natural disaster during the monsoon season, PWD rest houses have generated a revenue of Rs. 2 crore between June and October 10, 2025. \u201cBookings are now made on a first-come, first-served basis and confirmed instantly. Over 276 rest houses and 1,000 rooms are available daily through the online portal, with 50 percent advance payment\u2014Rs.250 for Himachali residents and Rs. 500 for non-Himachalis,\u201d Jain said.<\/p>\n

He further noted a significant increase in occupancy rates since the launch of the online booking system. \u201cAt Hamirpur, occupancy has risen from 62% to 85%, Tara Devi from 30% to 50%, Dharamshala from 50% to 75%, and Ghumarwin from 30% to 66%. The online system has not only made the process user-friendly but also boosted government revenue,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Jain also informed that regular inspections are being conducted to ensure proper upkeep, maintenance, and the availability of quality food in all rest houses.<\/p>\n

The digitisation of PWD rest house bookings marks another milestone in the State Government\u2019s ongoing efforts to enhance citizen convenience and promote good governance through technology-driven reforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
