Recognizing the transformative role of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in shaping the future, the Himachal Pradesh Government has launched a series of forward-looking educational initiatives aimed at empowering the youth with next-generation technical skills.<\/p>\n

Under the leadership of Chief Minister\u00a0Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong>, the Department of Technical Education<\/strong> has introduced an integrated Diploma in Computer Science Engineering and IoT<\/strong> in select government polytechnic colleges across the state. This move is part of the government\u2019s broader vision to align technical education with industry trends and prepare students for the digital economy.<\/p>\n

A government spokesperson informed that Government Polytechnic College, Hamirpur (Baduhi)<\/strong> \u2014 one of the oldest and most prestigious technical institutions in Himachal Pradesh \u2014 has commenced this innovative diploma programme. Following its successful introduction at Government Polytechnic College, Rohru<\/strong>, the joint diploma course was launched in Hamirpur in the previous academic session with an intake capacity of 51 seats<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The integrated diploma course offers immense potential for young learners aspiring to build careers in cutting-edge technological domains. It not only equips students with a strong foundation in computer science but also provides hands-on exposure to AI and IoT<\/strong>, two of the most rapidly evolving and high-demand fields worldwide.<\/p>\n

Students, including Artha<\/strong>, Srishti Chauhan<\/strong>, and Aryan Chopra<\/strong>, expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative. They said that starting the diploma course in Hamirpur has made it more convenient for local youth to access modern, in-demand technical education without having to migrate elsewhere. \u201cAI and IoT are the future \u2014 this course is a great opportunity to learn technologies that drive innovation and create jobs,\u201d said the students.<\/p>\n

In a significant step toward fostering innovation, the government has also announced the creation of a dedicated innovation fund of Rs. 2 crore<\/strong> to support young innovators in turning their ideas into viable solutions. This initiative aims to strengthen the innovation ecosystem and encourage entrepreneurship among students.<\/p>\n

Further expanding opportunities, the government has introduced new degree and diploma programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Machine Learning<\/strong> across several institutions. Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Nagrota Bagwan<\/strong>, will now offer degree courses in AI and Data Science, while new technical programmes have been approved at other institutions, including:<\/p>\n

  • Civil Engineering Degree<\/strong> at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Engineering and Technology, Pragatinagar, Shimla<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering (AI & Machine Learning)<\/strong> at Government Polytechnic Sundernagar, Mandi<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The required teaching staff for these new courses will be appointed soon to ensure smooth and effective implementation.<\/p>\n

    Officials highlighted that these educational reforms mark a shift from traditional, theory-based learning to technology-integrated, industry-linked training<\/strong>. The initiative is part of the government\u2019s broader reform agenda, \u2018Vayastha Parivartan\u2019<\/strong>, aimed at modernizing curricula, strengthening institutional capacity, and improving employability and entrepreneurship among youth.<\/p>\n
