The President of India, Droupadi Murmu<\/strong>, addressed the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly<\/strong> in Dehradun today on the historic occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the formation of Uttarakhand State<\/strong>. In her inspiring address, the President emphasized the vital role of legislative assemblies as a key pillar of India\u2019s parliamentary democracy<\/strong> and urged legislators to dedicate themselves to the service and welfare of the people.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, President Murmu said that Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar<\/strong> and the framers of the Constitution had placed great importance on continuous public accountability<\/strong> by adopting the parliamentary system. \u201cConstant accountability to the public is both a strength and a challenge of our parliamentary democracy,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n

Legislators \u2014 The Bridge Between People and Government<\/h3>\n

Highlighting the responsibilities of elected representatives, the President said that legislators serve as the most important link between the government and the public<\/strong>. She described it as a \u201cgreat privilege\u201d to have the opportunity to connect with people at the grassroots level and work for their welfare.<\/p>\n

She further added, \u201cIf MLAs remain actively engaged in solving public problems and work for people\u2019s welfare, the bond of trust between the public and their representatives will remain unbreakable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Call for Dedication and Sensitivity<\/h3>\n

President Murmu urged all members of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly to pursue development and welfare work with complete dedication<\/strong>, transcending party lines. She stressed that special attention should be given to the upliftment of the underprivileged sections<\/strong> of society and to creating opportunities for the younger generation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Appreciation for Uttarakhand\u2019s Legislative Achievements<\/h3>\n

Referring to Article 44 of the Constitution<\/strong>, which directs the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC)<\/strong>, the President lauded the Uttarakhand Assembly for passing the Uniform Civil Code Bill<\/strong>, becoming the first state in independent India to do so in alignment with constitutional principles.<\/p>\n

She also appreciated the Assembly for passing over 550 bills<\/strong> since the state\u2019s formation, including landmark legislations such as the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill<\/strong>, Uttarakhand Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Bill<\/strong>, and the Anti-Copying Bill<\/strong>, which reflect transparency, morality, and a commitment to social justice.<\/p>\n

Preserving Nature While Advancing Development<\/h3>\n

President Murmu praised Uttarakhand\u2019s natural beauty and rich ecological wealth<\/strong>, urging that the state\u2019s development journey must go hand-in-hand with environmental preservation. She commended the people of Uttarakhand for achieving remarkable progress over the past 25 years in environment, energy, tourism, healthcare, and education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The President also acknowledged the state\u2019s improvements in digital and physical connectivity<\/strong>, infrastructure, and human development indices. \u201cWith the spirit of Nation First<\/em>, I am confident that Uttarakhand will continue to move rapidly on the path of inclusive development,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
