In a politically charged address at Mandi\u2019s Paddal Ground, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> hit out at the Union Government and opposition BJP<\/strong>, accusing them of insensitivity and discrimination<\/strong> towards Himachal Pradesh in the aftermath of devastating natural calamities.<\/p>\n

Declaring that \u201cAtmanirbhar Himachal\u201d<\/em> was not just a slogan but his government\u2019s mission, the Chief Minister announced a hike in disaster compensation<\/strong>\u2014raising assistance for families who lost their belongings from Rd. 70,000 to Rs. 1 lakh<\/strong>, despite what he described as the state\u2019s \u201csevere financial strain\u201d and lack of Central support.<\/p>\n

\n

Centre Denying Aid, State Seeking Approval to Rehabilitate Victims<\/strong><\/h3>\n

CM Sukhu said the state was still waiting for the Rs. 1,500 crore aid<\/strong> promised by the Centre<\/strong>, asserting that not a single rupee had been released yet. \u201cIt has been two months since the Prime Minister\u2019s announcement, yet Himachal Pradesh has received no financial help,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further revealed that the state government had requested Central approval to rehabilitate disaster-affected families on forest land<\/strong>, as thousands of residents remain displaced after this year\u2019s unprecedented landslides and floods.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am ready to go to Delhi under the leadership of Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. I have no ego; my only goal is to help disaster victims,\u201d Sukhu said, making a pointed appeal to BJP leaders to prioritize people\u2019s suffering over politics.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBJP Playing Politics Over Pain\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Chief Minister lambasted the BJP for boycotting the event<\/strong> despite being invited, accusing them of prioritizing politics over compassion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe BJP leaders are insensitive to the suffering of the common man. Their only aim is to play politics and spread lies,\u201d Sukhu remarked.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He said the Union Government\u2019s relief amount of Rs. 1.30 lakh for rebuilding houses<\/strong> was \u201claughably inadequate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBuilding a house takes a lifetime. How can Rs. 1.30 lakh be enough? I come from a common family and understand people\u2019s pain,\u201d he said, defending his government\u2019s decision to raise compensation for fully damaged houses to Rs. 7 lakh<\/strong> and partially damaged houses to Rs. 1 lakh<\/strong>\u2014the highest in the country.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

Self-Reliance Through Welfare and Reform<\/strong><\/h3>\n

CM Sukhu outlined his government\u2019s \u201cAtmanirbhar Himachal\u201d vision<\/strong>, emphasizing welfare-driven governance. He noted that the state had adopted 6,000 orphaned children<\/strong> as \u201cChildren of the State\u201d and was providing financial support for widows\u2019 children pursuing higher education.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said his government was working to strengthen the rural economy<\/strong>, increasing the milk procurement price<\/strong> to Rs. 51 per litre for cow milk and Rs. 61 for buffalo milk, while also purchasing naturally grown wheat, maize, barley, and raw turmeric<\/strong> directly from farmers to enhance rural incomes.<\/p>\n

He contrasted this with the BJP\u2019s record, alleging that the previous government misused public funds<\/strong>, benefited contractors<\/strong>, and handed over land to industrialists at throwaway prices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe BJP government built buildings worth Rs. 1,000 crore to benefit contractors. In Baddi-Nalagarh, they allotted 5,000 bighas of land worth Rs. 5,000 crore to big industrialists for just Rs. 14 lakh. Not a single industry has come up there,\u201d he charged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

OPS, Education, and Healthcare Reforms<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Reaffirming his commitment to employees, the Chief Minister said,<\/p>\n

\u201cAs long as I am Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh will remain under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)<\/strong>. I am the son of a government employee, and I understand their concerns.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He credited educational reforms for improving Himachal\u2019s ranking from 21st to 5th<\/strong> in quality education and highlighted the establishment of 100 CBSE-based government schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On healthcare, Sukhu noted that robotic surgery<\/strong> had begun in Tanda and Chamiyana medical colleges and would soon expand statewide.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople of Himachal no longer need to spend Rs. 1,000 crore annually in other states for treatment,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

Ministers Join Attack on Centre<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi<\/strong> accused the Centre of bias against Himachal<\/strong>, saying,<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab received Central support, Himachal\u2014ruled by Congress\u2014was ignored.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He claimed that the special relief package<\/strong> announced by the Sukhu government was the most generous in the country<\/strong> and already being implemented.<\/p>\n

Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani<\/strong> was even more direct in his criticism, stating,<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Prime Minister calls Himachal his second home, yet no relief has come. The Rd. 1,500 crore aid never reached Shimla. Despite this, the Chief Minister personally went to ground zero to help victims.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He accused BJP MPs of being \u201cmute spectators\u201d during the crisis, saying none of Himachal\u2019s seven BJP parliamentarians had sought help from the Centre.<\/p>\n

BJP\u2019s Absence and Political Overtones<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The event, notably boycotted by BJP legislators from Mandi district<\/strong>, was attended by senior Congress leaders including Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi<\/strong>, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani<\/strong>, MLA Chander Shekhar<\/strong>, former Minister Kaul Singh Thakur<\/strong>, and BJP MLA Anil Sharma<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speakers lauded Sukhu\u2019s \u201csensitive and hands-on\u201d leadership during the 2023 disaster, contrasting it with the BJP\u2019s \u201cindifference and opportunism.\u201d<\/p>\n

MLA Chander Shekhar<\/strong> cautioned against the growing environmental threat, saying,<\/p>\n

\u201cGlobal warming\u2019s effects are visible. Despite limited resources, the Chief Minister has stood by every affected family when the Centre has not released a single rupee.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
