NCC Cadet Dumesh Kumari of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, has brought laurels to the institution and the state by successfully summiting Mount B.C. Roy (18,000 ft) and proudly hoisting the national flag at its peak. She achieved this feat while successfully completing the prestigious Advance Mountaineering Course (AMC) conducted by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling, West Bengal.<\/p>\n

Cadet Dumesh Kumari was the only participant from the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate to attend this Advance Mountaineering Course at HMI, Darjeeling.<\/p>\n

On her return to Vallabh Government College, Mandi, a high tea was organized in her honour. On this occasion, the Principal, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, felicitated Cadet Dumesh Kumari by presenting her with a memento. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to Cadet Dumesh as well as to the NCC officers.<\/p>\n

The two companies of the NCC Army Wing and one flight of the NCC Air Wing at Vallabh Government College, Mandi, are playing a vital role in the training and grooming of NCC cadets. The NCC Air Wing, Mandi, is being efficiently led and commanded by Flying Officer Dr. Chaman Lal Kranti Singh, while the NCC Army Wing is being ably looked after by Caretaker Officers Dr. Kavita and Dr. Balbir Singh.<\/p>\n

Principal Dr. Sanjeev Kumar stated that the NCC cadets of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, are enhancing the glory of the college and the state at both national and international levels. Under the able leadership and guidance of Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, NCC cadets of the college have represented India with distinction in Youth Exchange Programme camps held in Russia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Bhutan. From 2018 to 2025, more than 12 NCC cadets of the college have represented the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate at the National Republic Day Camp in New Delhi. In recent years, over 12 cadets of the college have been commissioned as officers in the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army, receiving the President\u2019s Commission.<\/p>\n

Flying Officer Dr. Chaman Lal Kranti, Flight Commander and Associate NCC Officer of the NCC Air Wing, Mandi, said that the Advance Mountaineering Course is a multidimensional training programme that strengthens the physical and mental endurance of NCC cadets, develops leadership qualities, enhances disaster management skills, and nurtures their interest in the Indian Armed Forces and adventure activities.<\/p>\n

Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and Media Coordinator of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman Lal Kranti Singh, informed that Cadet Dumesh Kumari represented the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate during the Advance Mountaineering Course at Darjeeling. This rigorous course was conducted from 21 October to 17 November 2025 amidst the challenging geographical and weather conditions of the Eastern Himalayas.<\/p>\n

During the Advance Mountaineering Course, cadets received intensive practical training in advanced mountaineering skills such as rock craft, snow craft, ice techniques, glacier movement and high-altitude cooking. Cadet Dumesh successfully completed the compulsory 13-kilometre speed trek with a load of 15 kilograms before the stipulated time, demonstrating exceptional physical fitness and remarkable mental resilience.<\/p>\n

Cadet Dumesh hails from the Gohar region of Mandi district and is currently a third-year B.A. student at Vallabh Government College, Mandi.<\/p>\n

Caretaker Officer Dr. Kavita described Cadet Dumesh Kumari\u2019s achievement as a matter of great pride and inspiration for 1 HP Girls Battalion NCC, Solan, as well as for Vallabh Government College, Mandi.<\/p>\n
