{"id":8134,"date":"2025-12-17T17:04:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T17:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theeaglenews.co.in\/?p=8134"},"modified":"2025-12-17T17:04:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T17:04:08","slug":"cm-announces-rs-2155-crore-spent-on-employees-and-pensioners-arrears-reaffirms-commitment-to-welfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theeaglenews.co.in\/?p=8134","title":{"rendered":"CM Announces Rs. 2,155 Crore Spent on Employees\u2019 and Pensioners\u2019 Arrears, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><h1><strong>CM Announces Rs. 2,155 Crore Spent on Employees\u2019 and Pensioners\u2019 Arrears, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Ghumarwin, Bilaspur:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Chief Minister <strong>Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu<\/strong> on Wednesday presided over the <strong>State-level function of the Himachal Pradesh Pensioner Joint Front<\/strong> at Ghumarwin and highlighted the government\u2019s extensive efforts to clear pending arrears of employees and pensioners, stating that a total of <strong>Rs. 2,155 crore<\/strong> has already been spent on these settlements.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that <strong>Pensioner\u2019s Day<\/strong> is not just a ceremonial occasion but an opportunity to honour the dedication and service of retired employees who have contributed to strengthening Himachal Pradesh\u2019s administrative system through honesty, discipline, and public service. He emphasized that pensioners continue to serve as an inspiration for future generations.<\/p>\n<p>CM Sukhu reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to the welfare of employees and pensioners, noting that the <strong>Old Pension Scheme (OPS)<\/strong> was restored in the very first Cabinet meeting after the government assumed office, despite inheriting a challenging <strong>Rs. 75,000 crore debt burden<\/strong> from the previous BJP government. The restoration of OPS benefits <strong>1.36 lakh employees<\/strong>, providing them dignity, security, and confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Detailing the progress in clearing arrears, the Chief Minister said:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pensioners and family pensioners aged <strong>75 and above<\/strong> have received <strong>full arrears<\/strong>, compared to only 20% paid by the previous government.<\/li>\n<li>Pensioners aged <strong>70 and above<\/strong> have received <strong>70% of arrears<\/strong>, with the remaining 30% to be cleared within 40 days.<\/li>\n<li>Those aged <strong>65 to 70<\/strong> have received <strong>38% arrears<\/strong>, representing an additional <strong>18%<\/strong> over the previous regime\u2019s payment, costing Rs. 75 crore.<\/li>\n<li>Pensioners below <strong>65 years<\/strong> have received <strong>35% arrears<\/strong>, with the government paying an extra <strong>15%<\/strong>, at a cost of Rs. 110 crore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He also noted that <strong>20% gratuity arrears<\/strong> have been cleared for employees retired between <strong>January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2021<\/strong>. Regarding salary arrears, Rs. <strong>50,000<\/strong> has been paid as an installment to Class I\u2013III employees and Rs. <strong>60,000<\/strong> to Class IV employees, costing Rs. 800 crore. An additional <strong>Rs. 20,000<\/strong> was paid to Class IV employees on October 19, 2024, at a cost of Rs. 100 crore.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister highlighted a special provision for Class IV employees, granting <strong>one year of qualifying service for pension calculation in lieu of five years of daily-wage service<\/strong>. He assured that as revenue improves, <strong>pending arrears and liabilities of employees and pensioners will be cleared on priority<\/strong>, aiming for full clearance by <strong>2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>CM Sukhu also appealed to pensioners to <strong>support the government\u2019s efforts<\/strong> to strengthen the state\u2019s financial position amid serious fiscal challenges. He assured that the <strong>upcoming budget<\/strong> will include effective measures in the interest of pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>On the occasion, the <strong>Mandi unit of the Pensioners Joint Front<\/strong> presented a cheque of <strong>Rs. 1 lakh<\/strong> to the Chief Minister\u2019s Relief Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Minister further elaborated on initiatives for systemic reforms, including support for <strong>families displaced due to the Bhakra Dam project<\/strong> in Bilaspur. Criticizing the BJP-led central government, he said Union Minister <strong>Jagat Prakash Nadda<\/strong> and others were not presenting correct figures regarding financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh, neglecting the state\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p>Town and Country Planning Minister <strong>Rajesh Dharmani<\/strong> welcomed the Chief Minister and noted the dedication of <strong>development projects worth Rs. 69 crore<\/strong> in Ghumarwin. State President of the Himachal Pradesh Pensioners Joint Front <strong>Atma Ram Sharma<\/strong> appreciated the financial benefits provided and highlighted pending demands of pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>Other dignitaries present included <strong>Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma<\/strong>, Political Advisor to the CM <strong>Sunil Sharma \u2018Bittu\u2019<\/strong>, Member of the State Women Commission <strong>Reena Pundir<\/strong>, Chairman APMC <strong>Satpal Vardhan<\/strong>, former MLAs <strong>Tilak Raj<\/strong> and <strong>Bumber Thakur<\/strong>, Congress leader <strong>Vivek Kumar<\/strong>, and office-bearers of the Pensioners Joint Front.<\/p>\n<p>The event reaffirmed the government\u2019s <strong>commitment to employees\u2019 and pensioners\u2019 welfare<\/strong> while highlighting fiscal discipline and systematic reforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CM Announces Rs. 2,155 Crore Spent on Employees\u2019 and Pensioners\u2019 Arrears, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare.\u00a0 &nbsp;
