The Himachal Pradesh Government will soon frame a comprehensive Senior Residency Policy for all medical colleges in the state with the objective of ensuring optimal utilization of medical human resources and strengthening healthcare delivery. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced this while presiding over a high-level meeting of the Health Education and Health Departments here today.<\/p>\n

The Chief Minister said that the proposed policy would focus on the rationalisation of senior resident posts across medical institutions. As a major reform, the quota for General Duty Officers (GDOs) in senior residency will be increased to 66 percent, replacing the existing 50:50 ratio between GDOs and direct recruitment, thereby providing greater opportunities to in-service doctors.<\/p>\n

To enhance academic capacity and healthcare services, the Chief Minister announced that MD and MS programmes in additional disciplines will be introduced in the medical colleges at Chamba, Nahan, Hamirpur and Nerchowk. This expansion is expected to significantly strengthen postgraduate medical education and improve specialist healthcare services in the state.<\/p>\n

CM Sukhu further stated that Doctorate of Medicine (DM) and Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) super-specialists would be appointed in medical colleges to boost advanced and specialized healthcare facilities. He also announced the establishment of state-of-the-art Intensive Care Units (ICUs) equipped with advanced medical technology in all medical colleges.<\/p>\n

In a major step towards improving patient facilitation and service delivery, the State Government will appoint 1,000 Patient Care Assistants (Rogi Mitras)\u2014500 in medical colleges and 500 in other health institutions. A pilot project will be launched from Hamirpur district, for which a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has already been prepared. In the initial phase, Rogi Mitras will be deployed at Primary Health Centres (PHCs).<\/p>\n

Additionally, Rogi Mitras will be deployed on a pilot basis to assist patients above 70 years of age at Chamiyana Hospital, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, and Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. Dedicated Rogi Mitra counters will also be set up in these institutions to facilitate elderly patients.<\/p>\n

To improve data management and streamline outpatient services, Data Entry Operators will be deployed in various OPDs of medical colleges to ensure systematic recording and management of patient-related information.<\/p>\n

Reiterating the government\u2019s commitment to healthcare excellence, the Chief Minister said that innovative measures coupled with long-term strategic planning were being implemented to strengthen health education and healthcare services, with the aim of making Himachal Pradesh one of the leading states in the country in the healthcare sector.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister\u2019s Principal Advisor (IT, Innovation and Digital Technology), Secretary Health Priyanka Basu Ingty, Special Secretary Health Ashwani Sharma, Jitender Sanjta, Director Health Education Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Dr. Gopal Beri, and other senior officers from both departments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
