Education Minister Rohit Thakur today called upon Scouts and Guides to play a leading and proactive role in the state government\u2019s campaign against drug abuse. He was presiding over the closing ceremony of a five-day National-level Advocacy Workshop held at the State Training Centre of Bharat Scouts and Guides in Rewalsar.<\/p>\n

Addressing the participants, the Education Minister said that Himachal Pradesh is known as Dev Bhoomi<\/em> and Veer Bhoomi<\/em>, and the youth of the state can play a decisive role in freeing society from social evils like drug addiction. He expressed satisfaction that, with the support of Bharat Scouts and Guides, a comprehensive and effective anti-drug campaign is being carried out under the \u201cNischay\u201d programme. As part of this initiative, anti-drug squads have been constituted at school and college levels across the state. He also lauded the significant contribution of Scouts and Guides during the COVID-19 period, particularly in community service and outreach.<\/p>\n

Rohit Thakur said that the youth are the most valuable asset of the nation and the state, and the government is taking concrete steps for their all-round development. He noted with pride that Himachal Pradesh has achieved a literacy rate of 99.30 percent, ranking at the top in the country along with Goa. He added that nearly 17 percent of the state budget is being spent on the education sector, reflecting the government\u2019s strong commitment to education.<\/p>\n

Congratulating the national headquarters of Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Himachal Pradesh State unit for the successful organization of the workshop, the Education Minister said that the active participation of around 200 delegates from various states and organizations clearly demonstrates the seriousness, awareness, and commitment of youth towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He emphasized that the 17 SDGs defined by the United Nations are not merely global declarations but represent humanity\u2019s collective responsibility.<\/p>\n

He observed that the core values of scouting\u2014service, discipline, leadership, self-reliance, and compassion\u2014are in complete harmony with the spirit of the SDGs. The Scouts and Guides movement, he said, is a powerful platform for translating these goals into action at the grassroots level. He expressed happiness that Scouts and Guides are playing a crucial role in implementing SDGs by promoting quality education, strengthening gender equality and social inclusion, spreading awareness about health, hygiene and well-being, protecting the environment, and taking initiatives to address climate change.<\/p>\n

The Education Minister further highlighted that the role of Scouts and Guides in disaster management, community service, and as volunteers during emergencies has been highly inspiring for society. He said that the advocacy workshop stands as a strong example of how Scouts and Guides can effectively integrate education, service, and innovation to work towards sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Rohit Thakur said that the workshop was not merely a five-day event but the beginning of a continuous journey aimed at building an inclusive, just, and sustainable future. He urged all participants to pledge not only to understand the Sustainable Development Goals but to incorporate them into their lives and actions to give a new direction to society and the nation.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Education Minister also released the book \u201cBemisaal Shiksha Se Bana Bemisaal Desh\u201d<\/em>, written by Ashok Thakur and based on experiences from an educational tour to Singapore. Participants were also honoured for their contribution towards the successful organization of the camp.<\/p>\n

Director of Higher Education and State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dr. Amarjeet Sharma, welcomed the gathering and highlighted various scouting activities. Assistant Director (Youth Programme) Alenendar Sharma spoke about the significance of the workshop and the activities conducted during the camp, informing that participants from Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Railways took part in the programme. State Secretary Dr. Rajkumar presented the vote of thanks.<\/p>\n

Former minister Prakash Chaudhary, Congress District President Champa Thakur, Zila Parishad member Chayan Rahi, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) Smritika Negi, senior officers from various departments, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
