Passengers and communities along the North Wales Coast are set to benefit from a major \u00a330 million investment aimed at improving rail safety, accessibility and service frequency.<\/p>\n

The UK Government has confirmed funding of approximately \u00a330 million for a comprehensive package of upgrades on the North Wales Coast Line<\/strong>, delivering significant safety improvements and paving the way for more frequent train services.<\/p>\n

Safer Crossings at Prestatyn and Abergele<\/h3>\n

A central part of the scheme will see the design and installation of two new fully accessible footbridges at Prestatyn<\/strong> and Abergele<\/strong>. The new structures will replace four high-risk level crossings, substantially reducing safety risks for pedestrians and rail users.<\/p>\n

The modern footbridges will be designed with accessibility at their core, ensuring step-free access for passengers with reduced mobility, parents with prams, and cyclists. The removal of the level crossings is expected to enhance operational safety while minimising potential service disruption caused by crossing incidents.<\/p>\n

50% Increase in Train Services<\/h3>\n

In addition to safety upgrades, the investment will unlock a 50 per cent increase in train services operated by Transport for Wales<\/strong> (TfW) from May 2026. The boost in capacity is expected to improve connectivity across North Wales and beyond, supporting commuters, tourism, and regional economic growth.<\/p>\n

The service uplift aims to make rail a more attractive and reliable option for travel, enabling more people to commute by train and reducing reliance on car journeys along the busy coastal corridor.<\/p>\n

Construction Timeline<\/h3>\n

Construction work is scheduled to begin following detailed design phases, with completion anticipated in spring 2027. During the works, efforts will be made to minimise disruption to passengers and local residents.<\/p>\n
