Shimla:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a major step toward strengthening advanced healthcare services in the state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, on Friday inaugurated a robotic surgery facility at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College in Nerchowk of Mandi district.<\/p>\n

The robotic surgery system, installed at a cost of Rs. 28.44 crore, will significantly enhance the quality of surgical care available to patients in the region. With this addition, the Nerchowk medical college has become the third government medical institution in the state to provide robotic surgery services after Atal Super Speciality Hospital in Chamiyana, Shimla, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, Kangra. The Chief Minister also observed the first robotic-assisted surgery performed using the newly installed system.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, Sukhu said that the state government was committed to introducing advanced medical technology across all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. He announced that robotic surgery services would soon be introduced at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla and Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Hamirpur, with the process already underway.<\/p>\n

He highlighted the encouraging results achieved through robotic-assisted procedures in the state so far. According to him, 151 surgeries have already been successfully performed through robotic systems at Chamiyana, while 92 surgeries have been conducted at Tanda Medical College.<\/p>\n

Aim to Develop AIIMS-Level Facilities<\/h3>\n

The Chief Minister stated that the government was working to equip medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh with modern technologies comparable to those available at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi. The aim, he said, was to ensure that medical colleges in the state function as comprehensive treatment centres rather than merely referral institutions.<\/p>\n

He added that doctors from the state would be sent on exposure visits to leading medical institutions to gain training and expertise in modern medical technologies, enabling them to deliver better healthcare services within the state.<\/p>\n

Investment Despite Financial Constraints<\/h3>\n

Speaking about financial challenges, Sukhu said that correcting disrupted systems takes time. He pointed out that the closure of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) had reduced the state\u2019s annual budget by nearly Rs. 10,000 crore. Despite this, the government plans to invest around Rs. 3,000 crore in advanced medical technologies in the coming years. He assured that financial limitations would not hinder improvements in healthcare infrastructure and services.<\/p>\n

Cardiology Department and PG Courses Planned<\/h3>\n

The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a cardiology department at Nerchowk Medical College. He said postgraduate (PG) courses would be started in all departments of the institution to strengthen medical education.<\/p>\n

In departments where professors are not available to start PG courses, the government will provide a one-time relaxation so that the courses can begin without delay. He further announced that the number of senior residency (SRship) posts would be increased.<\/p>\n

Sukhu said the radiology department and other departments of the medical college would be strengthened, and vacant posts of doctors, paramedical staff and technicians would be filled. He added that the state government had taken a policy decision to introduce PG courses and senior residency programmes in all medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

These initiatives, he said, would help ensure that patients receive better medical treatment within the state and reduce the need for them to travel outside Himachal Pradesh for specialized care.<\/p>\n

Upgrading Medical Infrastructure<\/h3>\n

The Chief Minister also announced that vacant posts at the Nerchowk Trauma Centre would be filled to improve emergency healthcare services. He said the process for installing a three-Tesla MRI machine and a LINAC machine is already underway, while a PET scan machine will also be installed soon at the medical college.<\/p>\n

Highlighting steps taken to support medical professionals, Sukhu said the stipend for senior resident doctors had been increased from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 1 lakh. Similarly, the stipend for senior resident super specialist doctors has been raised from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.30 lakh.<\/p>\n

Interaction with Doctors and Staff<\/h3>\n

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with doctors and staff at the medical college and gathered feedback regarding the existing facilities and shortcomings at the institution. He said suggestions related to medical education and healthcare infrastructure would be incorporated into policy decisions to improve healthcare services across the state.<\/p>\n

Sukhu also announced that medical colleges would have student sections of 60 each, with adequate staff strength to maintain the quality of medical education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
