Rajnath Singh, India\u2019s Defence Minister, on Tuesday released \u201cDefence Forces Vision 2047: A Roadmap for a Future-Ready Indian Military\u201d, a comprehensive strategy aimed at transforming the country\u2019s armed forces into a modern, technologically advanced and integrated military by the centenary year of independence.<\/p>\n

The vision document was unveiled at an event held at South Block and has been prepared by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff. It outlines a long-term framework to strengthen India\u2019s defence capabilities and support the country\u2019s ambition of becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047.<\/p>\n

Blueprint for Modernising the Armed Forces<\/h4>\n

The roadmap details strategic reforms, capability development, and organisational restructuring required within the Indian Armed Forces to address the evolving global security environment and emerging technological challenges.<\/p>\n

According to the document, the armed forces will transition into a multi-domain, agile and integrated military force capable of responding across the full spectrum of conflict while protecting India\u2019s expanding strategic interests.<\/p>\n

It emphasises the need to adapt to rapid changes in geopolitics, warfare technologies, and regional security dynamics, ensuring that India remains prepared for future threats.<\/p>\n

Focus on Jointness Among Services<\/h4>\n

A major pillar of the vision is promoting greater jointness and synergy among the Army, Navy and Air Force. The document calls for improved coordination in planning, operations, and capability development, enabling the three services to operate seamlessly during joint missions and complex military operations.<\/p>\n

The roadmap also highlights the importance of advanced training systems and modern operational doctrines to ensure that the armed forces remain adaptable to emerging forms of warfare, including cyber and multi-domain operations.<\/p>\n

Emphasis on Innovation and Technology<\/h4>\n

The plan places strong emphasis on innovation and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to prepare the military for future battlefields. These include enhanced use of digital systems, advanced weapon platforms, artificial intelligence, and modernised logistics and surveillance capabilities.<\/p>\n

Developing a technologically capable force is seen as essential for maintaining operational superiority in an increasingly competitive security environment.<\/p>\n

Push for Self-Reliance in Defence<\/h4>\n

Another key focus of the roadmap is Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence, encouraging the development and use of indigenous technologies and equipment tailored to India\u2019s unique security requirements.<\/p>\n

Strengthening domestic defence manufacturing and research capabilities is expected to boost operational readiness while also supporting economic growth and innovation in the country\u2019s defence industry.<\/p>\n

Phased Capability Development<\/h4>\n

The vision document proposes a structured roadmap with short-term, mid-term and long-term capability goals, ensuring steady progress toward building a world-class military.<\/p>\n

This phased approach will guide future institutional reforms, strategic partnerships and capability development, enabling the armed forces to evolve in a systematic and sustainable manner.<\/p>\n

Whole-of-Nation Approach to Security<\/h4>\n

Recognising the complexity of future security challenges, the document stresses the importance of a whole-of-nation approach to national defence. This includes integrating military capabilities with diplomatic efforts, technological advancement and economic strength to safeguard India\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

By the centenary of independence in 2047, the roadmap envisions India\u2019s military emerging as a globally respected, technologically advanced and combat-ready force, contributing to a strong and resilient Viksit Bharat.<\/p>\n

Senior Defence Leadership Present<\/h4>\n

Several top military and government officials attended the event, including Anil Chauhan, Dinesh K Tripathi, A. P. Singh, Rajesh Kumar Singh and Pushpendra Singh, along with other senior officials.<\/p>\n
