Seven members of a family, including three children, lost their lives after a massive fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in the Palam area of southwest New Delhi on Wednesday morning, officials said.<\/p>\n

According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a distress call about the blaze was received around 7 a.m. from a building located near Palam Metro Station. Fearing that several people might be trapped inside, fire officials immediately rushed teams to the spot and launched a large-scale rescue operation.<\/p>\n

A total of 30 fire tenders were deployed to bring the fire under control. Firefighters battled thick smoke and intense flames that had engulfed parts of the building.<\/p>\n

Officials said the five-storey structure had a basement and was being used for both commercial and residential purposes. The basement, ground floor and first floor were reportedly used for storing clothes and cosmetics, while the second and third floors housed residential units. A temporary tin shed had also been erected on the roof.<\/p>\n

During the rescue operation, firefighters managed to pull out seven people from inside the smoke-filled building. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival. The victims belonged to the same family and included three children.<\/p>\n

In a desperate attempt to escape the flames, two other occupants jumped from the building. They sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n

Visuals from the scene showed thick plumes of black smoke billowing out of the building as flames spread rapidly through parts of the structure. Narrow lanes surrounding the building and the congested locality made the rescue and firefighting operation more challenging for emergency teams.<\/p>\n

Firefighters conducted an intensive search inside the building to ensure that no one else was trapped. Cooling operations were still underway as teams continued to check the premises thoroughly.<\/p>\n

Police and emergency personnel cordoned off the area to facilitate the firefighting and rescue efforts. Large crowds gathered in the narrow streets near the building as firefighters used ladders and water hoses to control the blaze.<\/p>\n

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain how the incident occurred.<\/p>\n
