Rahul Gandhi Alleges Electoral Manipulation, Claims BJP Benefited from ‘Vote Theft’.

New Delhi:

Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging large-scale electoral manipulation and questioning the legitimacy of several of its parliamentary victories.

In a strongly worded statement, Gandhi claimed that a significant number of BJP’s 240 members in the Lok Sabha had secured their seats through what he described as “vote theft.” He argued that, on average, “every sixth BJP MP” benefited from such practices, suggesting that these representatives could be likened to “infiltrators” — a term often used by the BJP in its political rhetoric.

Escalating his criticism further, Gandhi accused the BJP of undermining democratic processes in the state of Haryana, claiming that “the entire government” there was a product of manipulated electoral mechanisms. According to him, institutions responsible for ensuring free and fair elections had been compromised and were operating under external influence.

He also alleged tampering with voter lists and irregularities in the electoral process, asserting that such practices distort the will of the people. “Those who control institutions and manipulate voter rolls are themselves ‘remote-controlled,’” Gandhi said, suggesting a broader erosion of institutional independence.

The Congress leader further claimed that the ruling party fears transparent elections, arguing that if polls were conducted impartially, the BJP would struggle to win even 140 seats in Parliament.

The BJP has not immediately responded to these allegations. The remarks come amid an increasingly heated political climate, with opposition parties repeatedly raising concerns over electoral integrity, while the ruling party has consistently rejected such claims as baseless and politically motivated.

The debate over the fairness of India’s electoral system continues to remain a central issue as the country moves toward future elections, with both sides trading accusations over the functioning of democratic institutions.
