Deputy Chief Whip and Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania on Sunday visited the scenic Baralacha pass, situated at an altitude of approximately 16,040 feet above sea level, along with Anuradha Rana, to assess the region’s tourism potential.

During the visit, Pathania said that Baralacha pass possesses immense potential to be developed into a world-class tourist destination due to its breathtaking natural beauty, panoramic mountain landscapes, and unique geographical features. He emphasized that the high-altitude location could become one of Himachal Pradesh’s most prominent tourism attractions if developed in a planned and sustainable manner.

Highlighting the significance of the region, Pathania noted that the Lahaul-Spiti area is ideally suited for adventure tourism, nature tourism, and high-altitude Himalayan tourism. He stated that with the development of essential infrastructure and visitor facilities, Baralacha pass could attract tourists from across India and abroad.

He stressed the need for improving tourism-related infrastructure, including the creation of rest areas, parking facilities, sanitation amenities, and other essential services to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for visitors. According to him, the availability of such facilities would significantly enhance the destination’s appeal and accessibility.

Pathania further said that he would strongly raise the issue of developing Baralacha Top as a major tourist attraction before the Chief Minister. He expressed confidence that the promotion of tourism in the region would generate substantial employment and self-employment opportunities for local residents, thereby contributing to the economic growth and prosperity of the area.

The Shahpur MLA also pointed out that remote mountainous regions of Himachal Pradesh, including Lahaul-Spiti, possess vast untapped tourism potential. Through strategic planning and sustainable development initiatives, these areas can gain a distinct identity on the national and international tourism map, he said.

During the visit, Pathania directed concerned officials to conduct a comprehensive study of the tourism potential of the region and prepare detailed development proposals. He emphasized that environmental conservation must remain a top priority while expanding tourism infrastructure and facilities, ensuring that development efforts are carried out in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner.

The visit is being viewed as a significant step toward exploring new avenues for tourism development in the high-altitude regions of Himachal Pradesh, with Baralacha Top emerging as a promising destination for adventure seekers, nature enthusiasts, and mountain travelers from around the world.
