The legacy of development and public service left behind by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Virbhadra Singh will continue to guide the state’s progress, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said on Sunday during the unveiling of his father’s statue at Sarahan in Rampur Bushahr of Shimla district.

The statue was unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri at Sarahan, the birthplace of the six-time Chief Minister, in an emotionally significant ceremony attended by political leaders, public representatives and other dignitaries. The occasion was marked by tributes to Virbhadra Singh’s contributions to Himachal Pradesh and his enduring connection with the people of the state.

Vikramaditya Singh said the entire state had been the karma bhoomi of his father, who gave a new direction to Himachal Pradesh’s development during his six terms as Chief Minister. He said Virbhadra Singh had always placed public service at the centre of his political life and worked towards the welfare of people across different regions of the state.

He also recalled his father’s deep faith in Maa Bhimakali and his special emotional attachment to Sarahan. The installation of his statue at his birthplace was a fitting tribute to a leader whose political journey and public life remained closely associated with the region.

He reaffirmed his commitment to carrying forward his father’s legacy by ensuring balanced development across Himachal Pradesh and strengthening initiatives aimed at public welfare.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure development in the Rampur Assembly constituency, the PWD Minister said road improvement works worth approximately Rs. 250 crore were being undertaken under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

He also pointed to the approval of Ra. 127 crore for the construction of a bridge over the Broni Khad at Jhakri, describing it as an important step towards improving connectivity in the region. The projects are expected to strengthen road infrastructure and improve accessibility for residents, particularly those living in remote areas.

Vikramaditya Singh said the government remained committed to taking forward the vision of development associated with Virbhadra Singh and ensuring that people across the state benefited from improved infrastructure and public services.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Chairman R.S. Bali, former MP and former Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratibha Singh, MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, former minister Kaul Singh Thakur, former minister Ram Lal Thakur, former MLA Neeraj Bharti and Himachal Pradesh Congress co-in-charge Vidit Chaudhary were among those present at the ceremony.
