The NAS-108 Ambulance Service, a pioneering initiative by the Medswan Foundation in collaboration with the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the National Health Mission (NHM), has reached an incredible milestone by successfully assisting in the safe delivery of over 3,060 newborns across the state since its launch on January 15, 2022.

This achievement highlights the service’s crucial role in enhancing maternal and neonatal healthcare, especially in the challenging and remote regions of Himachal Pradesh. With the assistance of skilled Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), ambulance pilots, and essential delivery kits, the NAS-108 service has been a lifeline for pregnant women in critical situations, particularly in areas where healthcare facilities are scarce or difficult to access.

The service, which has responded to more than 4.27 lakh emergencies, including around 78,000 pregnancy-related cases, has navigated the tough Himalayan terrain to provide timely and life-saving medical care. Remarkably, the NAS-108 service has been delivering an average of one newborn every 9 hours, demonstrating its efficiency and unwavering commitment to maternal health.

The success of the NAS-108 Ambulance Service has been instrumental in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the state, contributing significantly to Himachal Pradesh’s broader health goals. On several occasions, expectant mothers, whose pregnancies had complications and required referral to higher medical facilities, delivered their babies en route due to the expertise and prompt care provided by the 108 Ambulance team. This timely intervention has not only saved lives but also averted potential life-threatening complications.

The service, operating round-the-clock, has overcome the challenges posed by the state’s mountainous topography and scattered settlements, which often impede access to healthcare. With its dedicated response system and robust pre-hospital obstetric care, the NAS-108 Ambulance Service has played a pivotal role in improving emergency healthcare across Himachal Pradesh, setting a national benchmark for such services.

Each of the 3,000+ deliveries assisted by the NAS-108 service represents more than just a number – it symbolizes hope and joy for countless families across the state. The service’s ability to bring skilled care to the most remote corners of Himachal Pradesh has redefined pre-hospital care and proven that timely medical intervention can make all the difference.

This milestone is a testament to the vision and support of the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the National Health Mission, and the operational excellence of the Medswan Foundation. Their collective efforts have turned the challenges of healthcare delivery in the state into an opportunity to provide accessible, timely, and life-saving care to all.

The Medswan Foundation, in collaboration with the Government of Himachal Pradesh and NHM, remains committed to its mission of saving lives and strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the state. The foundation continues to appeal to the citizens of Himachal Pradesh to dial the toll-free number 108 for any medical emergency, ensuring that no one is left behind when it comes to healthcare.

As the NAS-108 service continues to evolve, it marks a new chapter in Himachal Pradesh’s healthcare system – one that prioritizes timely medical care, effective emergency response, and, most importantly, saving lives.
