Lok Sabha election on the Mandi parliamentary seat is a test of the popularity of Public Works Department Minister Vikaramaditya Singh, who has been fielded by the Congress as a party candidate to contest the Lok Sabha election on the Mandi seat against the BJP candidate actor Kangana Ranaut. He is son of six term former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh.

The challenges are high for Vikramaditya Singh to win the election because infighting is high among the Congress in this parliamentary constituency. Two factions are divided into Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Virbhadra family, who always look an opportunity to dominate each other.

Due to back stabbing within the party, in the last assembly elections two prominent Congress leaders Kaul Singh Thakur and Prakash Chaudhary had lost the assembly elections by a thin margin of votes in Mandi.

The first challenge for Vikramaditya Singh is from his own party, while another challenge is from the BJP because BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut is a Bollywood star, who has considerable fan following in this parliamentary constituency.

Apart from Kangana, former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur is also from Mandi district, who is leading the election campaign of Kangana. He has considerable influence in this region.

This parliamentary constituency comprises 17 assembly constituencies of six districts Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur and Shimla.

The BJP is banking for votes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ s achievements and urging the voters to support the BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut on the Mandi seat to give the chance to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to serve the country a third time as a PM. It is evident that the big leaders of BJP including PM Modi will campaign in favour of BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut.

The family of former Telecom Minister late Pandit Sukhram is also an opponent of Virbhadra family. The Sukhram’s family also has considerable influence in some parts of this parliamentary constituency, who will try its best to defeat the Vikramaditya. Anil Sharma, the son of Pandit Sukhram is currently a BJP MLA from Sadar assembly constituency in Mandi.

The election result on June 4 will decide the popularity graph of Vikramaditya Singh in this parliamentary constituency, which was represented by his father late Virbhadra Singh and his mother Congress state president Pratibha Singh three times each. Pratibha Singh is currently the sitting MP from Mandi.
