Bilaspur’s Sakshi Thakur to Represent India at Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship in Srinagar.

Himachal Pradesh’s young martial arts talent, Sakshi Thakur, has been selected to represent India at the 3rd Junior Asian Pencak Silat Championship, to be held in Srinagar, Kashmir from September 25 to 30, 2025. This was officially announced by Joginder Singh Azad, President of the Pencak Silat Association of Himachal Pradesh.

Sakshi earned this prestigious opportunity after participating in the Federation Cup Pencak Silat Championship, organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation from August 2 to 4 in Ladakh. In the event, which also served as a selection trial for the Asian Championship, Sakshi clinched a Silver Medal in the Junior Girls 55-59 kg weight category.

Calling it a proud moment for the state, Joginder Singh Azad said:

“It is a matter of great pride for Himachal Pradesh that Sakshi will represent India in a martial art recognized by the Government of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.”

Sakshi has been rigorously training under the guidance of coach Brij Lal Chauhan, who is also the General Secretary of Bilaspur District Pencak Silat Association. She has been practicing the martial art for the past four years and has consistently won gold, silver, and bronze medals in various national-level Pencak Silat tournaments, bringing glory to Himachal Pradesh.

The association’s leadership, including Chairman H.D. Panchani, Vice Presidents Brij Lal Chauhan (Mandi) and Surendra Kumar, General Secretary Mohammad Javed, Treasurer Banita Kumari, and executive members Narendra Kumar, Rohan, and Devgya Awasthi, extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Sakshi Thakur and her coach for this remarkable achievement.

Association President Joginder Singh Azad also expressed confidence that Sakshi would deliver an outstanding performance at the Asian-level event and make both Himachal Pradesh and India proud.
