Shimla:

The sacred land of Sundernagar has once again brought pride to Himachal Pradesh as Naib Subedar Bhupender Singh, a resident of Village Bhechna, Ward No. 2 of Municipal Council Sundernagar, successfully scaled Mount Aconcagua — the highest peak in South America — and unfurled the Indian tricolour on February 22, 2026.

Standing at an imposing height of approximately 6,961 meters (22,838 feet), Mount Aconcagua is known for its extreme weather conditions, freezing temperatures, powerful winds, and low oxygen levels. Conquering such a formidable summit is considered a remarkable achievement in the world of mountaineering and a true test of endurance, discipline, and courage.

Congratulating Naib Subedar Bhupender Singh on his extraordinary accomplishment, BJP MLA from Sundernagar, Rakesh Jamwal, said the achievement has elevated the pride of not only Sundernagar but the entire state on the global stage. He described the feat as a shining example of bravery, patriotism, and unwavering determination.

“Despite the harsh climatic conditions, biting cold, and oxygen scarcity at such a challenging altitude, Bhupender Singh displayed indomitable courage and brought glory to Himachal Pradesh and the nation. This achievement once again proves that the soil of Himachal is the land of brave hearts and warriors,” Jamwal said.

He further extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Army officer and expressed hope that he would continue to scale new heights in the future and inspire generations to come.

The successful ascent and hoisting of the tricolour atop South America’s highest peak has filled residents of Sundernagar and the entire state with immense pride, reinforcing Himachal Pradesh’s legacy of producing courageous and dedicated sons of the soil.

“Jai Hind,” the MLA concluded while lauding the historic achievement.
