The Himachal Pradesh Government on Monday organised a warm and dignified farewell ceremony in honour of outgoing Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at the historic Peterhoff. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Lady Governor Janaki Shukla along with senior political leaders, judges, officers and prominent citizens of the state.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu felicitated the Governor and the Lady Governor by presenting them with traditional shawls, Himachali caps and mementos as a mark of respect and gratitude for their services to the state.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said the moment was deeply emotional for him as he bid farewell to the “Devbhoomi” of Himachal Pradesh while preparing to take up a new constitutional responsibility. He remarked that working in any state naturally creates a bond, but his association with Himachal Pradesh had been especially meaningful.

“Himachal is not only Devbhoomi but also a ‘Prem Bhoomi’. The people here are simple, sincere and full of warmth,” he said, expressing gratitude for the affection and cooperation he received during his tenure.

The Governor said he was leaving the state with cherished memories of the love and support extended by people across political parties, social and cultural organisations, as well as government officers and employees. He noted that Himachal Pradesh was steadily progressing on the path of development, and its peaceful environment, rich cultural traditions and strong social harmony served as a foundation for continued growth.

He also stressed the importance of addressing key challenges facing society, including the growing menace of drug abuse, environmental protection and the development of the tourism sector. Thanking the state government for organising the farewell programme, he wished the people of Himachal Pradesh good health, happiness and prosperity.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu described the moment as an emotional one for the state as it bids farewell to a dignified and inspiring Governor. He said Shiv Pratap Shukla discharged his constitutional responsibilities with dedication, sensitivity and dignity, upholding the spirit of the Constitution and enhancing the prestige of the Governor’s office.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that under the Governor’s leadership, Lok Bhavan emerged as a responsive institution connected with the concerns of the people, promoting goodwill and cooperation among different sections of society. He added that the Governor remained closely connected with citizens, frequently interacting with students, youth and social organisations.

“His visits to universities and educational institutions inspired young minds to pursue knowledge, values and service to the nation,” Sukhu said.

He further stated that the Governor’s deep respect for the rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions of Himachal Pradesh was widely appreciated. Extending best wishes, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that Shukla would continue to serve the nation with wisdom and compassion as he assumes the role of Governor of Telangana.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta welcomed the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Lady Governor and other distinguished guests and recalled Shukla’s valuable contributions to the state during the past three years.

Among those present at the ceremony were Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, cabinet ministers, judges of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, senior government officials and several distinguished guests.
