Four AFMS Officers Make History at 43rd World Medical & Health Games in Saint-Tropez, France.

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess and skill, four officers from the Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) have etched their names in glory at the 43rd World Medical and Health Games held in Saint-Tropez, France. The event, which spanned from June 16 to 23, 2024, saw Lt Col Sanjeev Malik, Maj Anish George, Capt Stephen Sebastian, and Capt Dania James achieve an unprecedented feat for India by securing a total of 32 medals.
Their outstanding performance included an impressive haul of 19 Gold Medals, 9 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze Medals across various categories. Lt Col Sanjeev Malik emerged as a standout in the Above 35 years Male Category, clinching five Gold Medals in events ranging from 800m to Cross Country and Relay. Maj Anish George showcased versatility and excellence in the Under 35 years Male Category, securing four Gold Medals along with multiple Silver and Bronze across disciplines like track events, javelin, shotput, and powerlifting.
Capt Stephen Sebastian dominated the Under 35 years Male Category with six Gold Medals, excelling in sprinting, long jump, and hammer throw. Capt Dania James demonstrated exceptional prowess in the Under 35 years Female Category, earning four Gold Medals along with several Silver and Bronze, excelling in events such as sprints, javelin, discus throw, and powerlifting.
The Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, commended the officers for their outstanding achievements, highlighting their dedication and skill. The World Medical and Health Games, often likened to the Olympics for healthcare professionals, attracts participants from over 50 nations annually, showcasing the convergence of medical expertise and athletic excellence.
The remarkable success of these AFMS officers not only underscores their athletic abilities but also serves as an inspiration to healthcare professionals worldwide, emphasizing the importance of fitness and well-being in tandem with medical expertise.
