BJP Protests Over Collapsed Road at Kainchi Mor in Dharampur Mandi, Warns of Road Blockade if Not Repaired Soon.
Shimla:
A strong protest was staged on Wednesday by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) outside the Public Works Department (PWD) Division office at Dharampur in Mandi district over the issue of a collapsed road near Kainchi Mor on the Sarkaghat–Dharampur route in the Dharampur assembly constituency.
The protest was led by state BJP executive member Rajat Thakur. During the demonstration, BJP leaders and workers raised slogans against the PWD, demanding immediate restoration of the damaged road. Protesters alleged that despite the serious inconvenience faced by the public due to the road collapse, the department has failed to take concrete action so far.
Rajat Thakur criticized the deteriorating condition of roads in the Dharampur area, accusing the concerned department of negligence. He stated that the current situation is a result of administrative apathy and warned that if the road is not restored soon, the BJP, along with local residents, will intensify the agitation. He added that the protest could escalate into a larger movement, including demonstrations and a complete road blockade.
He also demanded strict action against those responsible for damaging the road’s supporting wall (retaining wall), emphasizing that accountability is necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.
Local residents who joined the protest expressed their frustration, stating that the road closure has significantly disrupted daily life. School children, patients, and commuters are facing severe difficulties due to the situation.
Meanwhile, officials from the Public Works Department stated that restoration work has already begun and efforts are underway to normalize the situation as soon as possible. However, the BJP leader Rajat Thakur has made it clear that if a swift resolution is not achieved, the protest will be intensified further.
