IGNOU Study Centre Mandi Hosts Orientation Programme for January 2026 Learners, Highlights Academic Support and Institutional Achievements.

An orientation programme was organized for the learners of various courses at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Study Centre 1102, established at Vallabh Government College, Mandi. The programme was presided over by the Coordinator of the Study Centre, Dr. Rajkumar Thakur.

In his presidential address, Dr. Rajkumar Thakur highlighted the illustrious history of IGNOU, its significant contributions to the field of education, and provided detailed information regarding admissions, assignments, practical examinations, and other academic aspects of the various programmes offered at Study Centre 1102. He stated that IGNOU is one of the leading open universities in the world, with over 21,124,722 registered learners. The university is playing a pivotal role in expanding access to education by offering more than 333 academic programmes.

On this occasion, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Counsellor for M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication and Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, shared important insights regarding course credits, project work, and dissertation requirements with the learners. Dr. Monika, Counsellor from the Department of Education, provided essential information related to project work in various postgraduate programmes.

Former Assistant Coordinator of the Study Centre, Dr. Mahendra Jamwal, apprised the learners of various scholarship schemes offered by IGNOU. During the programme, Dr. Rajkumar Thakur, Flying Officer Dr. Chaman, Dr. Monika, Dr. Mahendra Jamwal, and Assistant Coordinator Dr. Hoshiyar Singh addressed the queries of the learners comprehensively.

Flying Officer Dr. Chaman also informed that Dr. Mohan Sharma, Additional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Shimla, has highly appreciated the commendable work carried out by Dr. Rajkumar Thakur, Coordinator of Study Centre 1102, Vallabh PG College, Mandi, along with his team.

In the message of appreciation, it was stated that the efforts made towards strengthening the infrastructure of the Study Centre, fostering professionalism among the staff, and enhancing the learner support system are highly praiseworthy. Furthermore, his proactive and positive role in finance, administration, and learner support services has been described as exemplary.

Dr. Mohan Sharma also remarked that the Coordinator has consistently demonstrated a willingness to accept new challenges and accomplish them successfully, reflecting his effective leadership qualities. He extended his best wishes to the Coordinator and his entire team, expressing hope for continued excellence and cooperation in the future.

The programme was effectively conducted by Assistant Coordinator Dr. Hoshiyar Singh. Hundreds of learners from the January 2026 academic session participated enthusiastically in the online orientation-cum-induction programme.
