Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu revealed plans for significant enhancements in medical services at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, including the deployment of 600 staff nurses and 43 Operation Theatre Assistants (OTAs), alongside the filling of 30 Medical Officer (MO) positions in the emergency medicine department.

Chairing a crucial meeting of the Health Department today, Chief Minister Sukhu underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to elevating healthcare standards across IGMC and other medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh. Emphasizing infrastructure augmentation and the recruitment of essential medical personnel, he stressed the importance of bolstering the state’s healthcare capabilities.

“The Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Shimla will soon offer advanced medical services,” Chief Minister Sukhu announced, highlighting the government’s focus on improving working conditions for healthcare professionals and ensuring comprehensive patient care. He also mentioned plans for a detailed study to identify prevalent ailments and high-traffic Outpatient Departments (OPDs), aimed at optimizing doctor allocation and medical facilities accordingly.

Chief Minister Sukhu assured adequate funding for the integration of modern technologies and equipment at IGMC, earmarking Rs. 25 crore for the hospital’s modernization efforts.

The meeting, attended by Health Minister Dr. (Col) Dhani Ram Shandil, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, MLA Harish Janartha, Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Secretary to Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, Director Health Services Dr. Gopal Berry, and senior officials, concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to achieving healthcare excellence in Himachal Pradesh.
