Netanyahu Reaffirms IDF’s Freedom of Action in Southern Lebanon, Vows Continued Presence in Security Zone.

Jerusalem:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated his government’s unwavering support for military operations in southern Lebanon, declaring that Israeli forces have “full freedom of action” to counter any threats posed to troops deployed near the border and to residents of northern Israel.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, Netanyahu emphasized that the directives given by him and the Defense Minister to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remain unchanged despite ongoing regional tensions.

“My directive, and that of the Minister of Defense, to the IDF is clear and has not changed: Our fighters in southern Lebanon have full freedom of action to thwart any direct or developing threat to them or to the residents of the North. The IDF has no restrictions on this matter,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister stressed that Israel’s military personnel operating along the northern frontier continue to enjoy the full backing of the government and the public. “I stand behind them; the entire nation stands behind them,” he added.

Netanyahu also reaffirmed Israel’s intention to maintain its presence in what he described as a security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary. According to the Prime Minister, the deployment is essential to safeguarding communities in northern Israel and ensuring the security of Israeli citizens.

“My stance is firm on our remaining in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as is required in order to protect the residents of the North and all citizens of the state,” he said.

The remarks come amid continued security concerns along the Israel-Lebanon border, where tensions have remained elevated following months of cross-border exchanges and military activity. Israeli officials have repeatedly stated that preventing threats from emerging near the northern border remains a key national security objective.

Netanyahu’s latest comments signal that Israel is unlikely to alter its military posture in the region in the near future, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining operational flexibility for the IDF and sustaining security measures along the Lebanese frontier.

The statement is expected to draw attention from regional and international observers monitoring developments along the Israel-Lebanon border, where the security situation continues to be closely watched.
