Flood Crisis Deepens in Arunachal Pradesh as Fresh Landslides Hit Two Districts; Over 1.13 Lakh People Affected.
Itanagar:
The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh continues to remain critical, with fresh landslides and flood-related incidents reported from Upper Subansiri and Upper Siang districts during the last 24 hours, officials said on Friday.
According to the State Disaster Management Department’s evening situation report, relentless rainfall has triggered widespread flooding and landslides across several parts of the state, disrupting normal life and causing extensive damage to infrastructure, roads, and public utilities.
The ongoing monsoon fury has so far claimed seven lives, while 1,13,674 people have been affected across multiple districts. Authorities said several villages remain inundated, and transportation has been severely hampered due to landslides blocking key road networks.
The latest report indicated that Upper Subansiri and Upper Siang districts witnessed fresh incidents of rain-induced landslides and flooding, adding to the challenges faced by the administration in carrying out relief and restoration work. Officials are closely monitoring vulnerable locations as continuous rainfall has increased the risk of further landslides in hilly areas.
Rescue and relief operations are underway in the affected districts, with teams from the district administration, disaster management authorities, and security forces working to provide assistance to stranded residents. Temporary relief camps have been set up in several locations, where displaced families are being provided with food, drinking water, and essential supplies.
Meanwhile, the state government has intensified efforts to restore road connectivity and repair damaged infrastructure. Public Works Department (PWD) teams, along with disaster response personnel, are engaged in clearing debris from roads and reopening vital routes wherever weather conditions permit.
Officials have advised residents living in landslide-prone and low-lying areas to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by local authorities. People have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly along vulnerable mountain roads, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh in the coming days, raising concerns about additional flooding and landslides. Authorities have kept emergency response teams on standby and are maintaining close coordination with district administrations to ensure swift evacuation and relief wherever required.
With the monsoon showing little sign of abating, the state administration continues to focus on rescue operations, restoration of essential services, and providing relief to thousands of affected residents as Arunachal Pradesh battles one of the season’s most severe spells of rain-induced disasters.
