President Droupadi Murmu Invites Romanian Companies to Join India’s Growth Story at India–Romania Business Forum.
Bucharest:
President Droupadi Murmu today called upon Romanian businesses to become active partners in India’s development journey, highlighting the vast opportunities created by the country’s vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”. Addressing the India–Romania Business Forum in Bucharest, she said India’s rapid economic growth, investor-friendly policies, and expanding digital and industrial capabilities offer significant prospects for international partnerships, investment, and technology collaboration.
The forum was attended by President of Romania Nicușor Dan, members of the Romanian Government, business leaders from both countries, and representatives of industry associations from India and Romania.
In her address, President Murmu described Romania as a natural and valuable partner for India due to its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, highly skilled workforce, advanced industrial capabilities, and strong integration with the European Union. She said Romania serves not only as an attractive destination for investment but also as an important gateway to the wider European market.
The President noted that the participation of a large Indian business delegation at the forum reflected the growing confidence of Indian industries in Romania’s economic potential and their commitment to building long-term partnerships with Romanian enterprises.
Highlighting the growing importance of bilateral economic cooperation, President Murmu said trade and investment remain central pillars of the India–Romania partnership. She also underscored the significance of the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (India–EU FTA), describing it as one of the world’s most important economic partnerships, covering a combined market of nearly two billion people and an economy valued at around 25 trillion US dollars.
She stressed that the early and effective implementation of the FTA would provide a predictable business environment, strengthen investment flows, deepen value chain integration, and create fresh opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, and innovators in both India and Europe.
President Murmu said India continues to be one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world and is working towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 under the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision. She emphasized that this ambitious journey presents enormous opportunities for global investors, technology partners, and businesses seeking long-term growth.
She highlighted several reforms undertaken by the Government of India to improve the ease of doing business, including simplified taxation systems, transparent regulations, and production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes aimed at boosting manufacturing and attracting investments.
The President also outlined several sectors where India and Romania can deepen cooperation. These include energy security and the green transition, where both countries can collaborate to promote sustainable development. She pointed to Romania’s strengths in the chemical and fertilizer industries as an area offering strong potential for partnership.
She further said that India’s globally recognized Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), vibrant startup ecosystem, and leadership in information technology could complement Romania’s expertise in software engineering, cybersecurity, research, and advanced technologies.
President Murmu also identified transportation and logistics as promising areas for cooperation, including the development of ports, railways, highways, logistics parks, and multimodal transport networks. In addition, she highlighted opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, and food processing.
Expressing confidence in the future of India–Romania economic relations, the President urged the business communities of both countries to capitalize on emerging opportunities and convert them into successful commercial partnerships. She called upon Romanian companies to actively participate in India’s growth story, stating that stronger business collaboration would help build resilient supply chains, generate employment, encourage innovation, and create sustainable prosperity for the people of both nations.
