Israel Announces Tough Security Measures After Deadly West Bank Attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz have ordered a series of intensified security measures across the West Bank following a string of terrorist attacks over the past 24 hours, including a deadly shooting attack near the village of Tell that claimed the life of an Israeli civilian.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the decisions were taken after consultations with members of the Security Cabinet and senior officials of Israel’s security establishment.
Among the immediate measures ordered is the demolition of the home of the attacker responsible for Friday morning’s fatal attack near Tell. Israeli authorities also directed security forces to carry out enhanced operations in villages identified as centres of terrorist activity, including the confiscation of illegal weapons, the revocation of work permits for individuals linked to terrorism, and other security-related actions.
The government further instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to reinforce troop deployments throughout Judea and Samaria (the Israeli term for the West Bank), increase security at checkpoints, and implement the separation of traffic routes where considered necessary to reduce the risk of further attacks.
In addition to the security measures, the government announced plans to accelerate the legalisation of existing agricultural outposts and establish new farm outposts, a move that is likely to draw international attention given the longstanding disputes surrounding Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defence Minister Katz expressed their condolences to the family of Benayahu Mellet, who was killed in the attack, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. They also voiced support for Israeli security forces and residents, praising their resilience in the face of continued security threats.
“The security forces must be allowed to operate freely and with full force against terrorism,” the two leaders said in a joint statement, urging the public to refrain from any actions that could interfere with ongoing military and security operations.
The latest measures come amid heightened tensions and continued violence in the West Bank, where Israeli security forces have intensified operations following a series of attacks targeting Israeli civilians and security personnel. The situation remains tense as authorities continue investigations into the recent attacks and maintain an elevated security presence across the region.
