PM Modi Highlights India’s Strong Conservation Efforts on World Elephant Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted India’s strong efforts towards elephant conservation on the occasion of World Elephant Day, emphasizing the species’ important place in the country’s ecological heritage.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said that the majestic elephant has remained an integral part of India’s ecological heritage. He expressed happiness that India is home to more than 60 per cent of the world’s wild Asian elephants, underlining the country’s significant role in conserving the species.
Modi noted that India has 33 Elephant Reserves, which provide important habitats for elephants and contribute to strengthening long-term conservation efforts. These reserves play a crucial role in protecting elephant populations and supporting their natural habitats.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of forest personnel, scientists, veterinarians, mahouts and local communities, describing them as integral to the country’s elephant conservation efforts.
He praised their collective work in protecting elephants and preserving India’s rich ecological heritage, while reaffirming the importance of sustained conservation measures for the long-term protection of the species.
World Elephant Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the conservation of elephants, the challenges they face and the importance of protecting their natural habitats.
In his message, Modi said: “On World Elephant Day, we celebrate the majestic elephant which has remained an integral part of India’s ecological heritage. It is gladdening that India is home to over 60% of the world’s wild Asian elephants. Our nation has 33 Elephant Reserves, which provide habitats for elephants and strengthen our efforts towards their long-term conservation.”
He also expressed pride in the forest personnel, scientists, veterinarians, mahouts and local communities who are contributing to these conservation efforts.
